We lift this prayer for marriage before the Lord with hearts full of hope and reverence. First, we must address the importance of praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for it is written, *"For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus"* (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). There is no other name by which we can approach the Father, and salvation is found in no one else (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we encourage you to confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him to be Lord of your life. This is the foundation upon which all godly marriages are built.
Now, we pray for your future husband, that the Lord would indeed shape him into a man of godly character, wisdom, and strength. May he be a provider not only of material needs but also of spiritual leadership, love, and protection, as Scripture commands: *"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it"* (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). We ask that the fear of the Lord would be the guiding force in his life, for *"the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom"* (Proverbs 9:10 WEB). May he honor your requests when they align with God’s Word and lead your home in righteousness.
However, we must also gently rebuke any sense of entitlement or manipulation in this prayer. Marriage is a covenant of mutual submission, love, and service, not a demand for personal desires to be met. Instead of praying for your husband to simply honor *your* requests, pray that *both* of you would honor *God’s* requests for your marriage. The Bible calls wives to respect and submit to their husbands (Ephesians 5:22), just as husbands are called to love their wives sacrificially. A godly marriage is a partnership of two sinners saved by grace, both seeking to glorify God together.
We also encourage you to examine your own heart as you prepare for marriage. Are you cultivating the qualities of a godly wife—patience, kindness, selflessness, and a gentle spirit? Proverbs 31 describes a woman of noble character, whose worth is far above rubies. Pray that the Lord would prepare *you* to be the wife He has called you to be, just as you pray for your future husband.
Let us pray together:
*"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, thanking You for the gift of marriage and the covenant it represents. Lord, we lift up this sister’s future husband to You. Mold him into a man after Your own heart—a provider, a protector, and a spiritual leader. Fill him with the fear of You, that he may walk in wisdom and humility. Teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, and may their marriage be a reflection of Your love and grace.
Father, we also pray for this sister. Prepare her heart to be a wife who respects, supports, and encourages her husband in godliness. Guard her from selfishness or unrealistic expectations, and help her to trust in Your timing and Your plan. May their union be built on the foundation of Your Word, and may they grow together in faith, love, and holiness.
Lord, if there is any unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in her heart, reveal it to her so she may repent and walk in freedom. If she has not yet placed her faith in Jesus Christ, draw her to Yourself, that she may know the hope of salvation.
We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen."*
May the Lord bless you as you seek His will for your life and your future marriage. Trust in His perfect timing, and continue to grow in faith and obedience to His Word. If you are currently in a courtship or relationship, ensure it is honoring to God, with marriage as the goal and purity as the standard. If you are not yet in a relationship, use this time to draw nearer to the Lord, for a strong marriage begins with a strong personal walk with Him.
