Marriage Restoration

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please pray for my wife and I as our marriage on the rocks. She wants a divorce and I’ve not been a good husband. We’re separated and I’m fasting for a change in myself and our marriage.

We hear your heart’s cry, and we stand with you in fervent prayer, lifting up your marriage before the Lord. The pain of separation and the weight of knowing you’ve fallen short as a husband is heavy, but we serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Your willingness to fast and seek change is a powerful step, one that aligns with God’s heart for repentance and restoration.

First, we must address the reality of sin in this situation. Scripture is clear that marriage is a covenant before God, not to be broken lightly (Malachi 2:16). Divorce is not part of His original design, and while there are circumstances where it may be permitted (Matthew 19:8-9), we must always pursue reconciliation first, as God Himself is the God of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18). Your wife’s desire for divorce is a grievous wound, but we serve a God who heals and restores what is broken.

We rebuke the spirit of division and hardness of heart that has entered your marriage. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus came that you might have life, and life abundantly. We declare that any stronghold of bitterness, unforgiveness, or pride be broken in the name of Jesus. If there has been unfaithfulness, addiction, neglect, or any other sin that has contributed to this separation, we urge you to confess it before God and, if possible, before your wife with humility and godly sorrow (James 5:16). True repentance leads to change, and change begins with a contrite heart.

We also want to encourage you to examine your own walk with the Lord. Have you been seeking Him first, or have you allowed other things to take priority? Have you loved your wife as Christ loved the church, sacrificially and selflessly (Ephesians 5:25)? Have you honored her, cherished her, and prayed for her consistently? If not, now is the time to surrender every area of your life to the Lord. A marriage cannot thrive when one or both spouses are not thriving in their relationship with God.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to You. Lord, You see the pain, the brokenness, and the longing for restoration. We ask that You would soften both of their hearts, drawing them back to You and to one another. Father, we repent on behalf of this husband for any ways he has failed to love, lead, and cherish his wife as You have called him to. We ask for Your forgiveness and for the power of Your Holy Spirit to transform him from the inside out. Give him the strength to walk in humility, to seek reconciliation, and to love his wife as Christ loves the church.

Lord, we also pray for this wife. We ask that You would break any hardness in her heart and replace it with a spirit of forgiveness and grace. Help her to see her husband through Your eyes and to remember the covenant they made before You. Father, we declare that any lies of the enemy, any thought that this marriage is beyond repair, be shattered in the name of Jesus. Let her heart be open to the possibility of restoration, not because of human effort, but because of Your miraculous power.

We bind the spirit of division and divorce in this marriage, and we loose the spirit of unity, love, and reconciliation. We declare that what the enemy meant for harm, You will turn for good (Genesis 50:20). Lord, we ask for a supernatural intervention in this marriage. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Give them wisdom, patience, and grace as they navigate this difficult season. If it is Your will, restore this marriage and make it a testimony of Your redeeming love.

We also pray for protection over this husband as he fasts and seeks You. Strengthen him in his weakness, and let this time of fasting draw him closer to You. May he emerge from this season with a renewed mind, a purified heart, and a deeper dependence on You. Father, we ask that You would surround him with godly men who can encourage him, hold him accountable, and speak truth into his life.

Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You (Luke 1:37). We believe that You can restore what has been broken, heal what has been wounded, and redeem what has been lost. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the name by which we are saved and through which we have access to You. May Your will be done in this marriage, and may Your name be glorified through it.

In the meantime, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from a pastor or Christian marriage counselor who can walk alongside you both. Restoration is a process, and it often requires outside help to navigate the complexities of healing. Do not lose hope, for hope in the Lord will never disappoint (Romans 5:5). Keep pressing into God, keep praying, and keep believing that He is able to do immeasurably more than all you ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Remember, the story of your marriage is not over. God is the author of redemption, and He specializes in writing beautiful endings to broken stories. Trust in Him, lean on Him, and let Him lead you both into a future that reflects His glory.

We appreciate your honesty in sharing this. Owning that you have not been a good husband and wanting to change takes humility, and we hear how heavy this separation feels while you are fasting and seeking God for your marriage.

Reconciliation, when it is possible, is not a quick fix but a steady rebuilding of trust over time. You cannot carry that for both of you, but you can stay faithful in what is yours to do. That often means letting your actions speak longer and louder than promises, giving your wife room without pressure, and listening well when she is willing to talk.

One helpful next step while you are fasting is to not walk this alone. Consider inviting a mature pastor or trusted Christian counselor to meet with you regularly for accountability and guidance, someone who knows you both and can help you discern what real change looks like day to day and how to love your wife well in this season, even from a distance.

Father, we bring this husband before You and ask for Your mercy and wisdom over him and his wife. Work deeply in his heart to make him more like Christ, guard his health as he fasts, and give his wife peace and clarity. Lead them both toward Your will and toward healing, whatever the path ahead looks like. In Jesus' name, amen.

I pray that Jesus fixes your marriage, I pray that the Lord makes you new and your wife doesn't divorce you, amen. have a good day/night

Your honest confession before the Lord is itself a mercy, and we have heard your request with sorrow and with hope. That you see your own fault, that you are separated and yet seeking the Lord by fasting and prayer for a change in yourself and in your marriage, gives ground to plead for grace.

Take heed that your repentance be of the right sort. There is a carnal repentance which is of the flesh, stirred only by judgment or by fear of loss, and it does not give God glory. True repentance is the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. It gives God glory by confessing sin without excuse, by justifying God though He should judge us, and by looking out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Ask yourself before the Lord who cannot be deceived, is your sorrow only that your wife may leave, or is it that you have sinned against a holy and good God. The repentance that saves weeps and abhors past sin because the love of Christ has pardoned it, and it turns from present sin because of the love of God who died for us. Faith and repentance are inseparable. The one ejects sin as an evil tenant, the other admits Christ to be sole Master of the heart.

Let that repentance be practical and lasting. True repentance will yield works meet for repentance. It is not a sudden feeling which passes with the emotion of the hour, but a grace that lives as long as faith lives. Do not think repentance is a thing to be gotten through at the beginning and then done with. Sweet sister repentance is to be our companion all the way to the gates of pearl. She makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His finished work. Therefore do not put your repenting in the place of Christ, but let it lead you to Him. Repentance is preached in the name of Jesus as the gift of God, and where there is true repentance there is remission of sins through His blood. You need not seek a perfect repentance, for the truest repentance is that of a man just entering heaven, but you do need a sincere one that bears fruit in a changed life.

Remember also that the goodness of God leads to repentance. The Lord does not merely drive men as Cain was driven, but He draws. His goodness to you in sparing your life, in giving you this time to seek Him, in not leaving you content in sin, ought to melt you. Think of His goodness and let it lead you to a burning indignation against sin because it is committed against so holy, so good, so glorious a Being.

There is hope for restoration, for Peter fell grievously and yet was restored. His was not a continuance in sin without repentance, but a speedy repentance wrought by the potent look of Christ. When Jesus looked upon him, his heart dissolved in bitter and salutary tears. That same look can work in you a godly sorrow that needs not to be repented of. And that look severed Peter from the crowd and in due time restored him to service. So seek the Lord's face until He looks upon you and restores you.

We also remember the word of reconciliation, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them. He is the God of peace and has prepared everything necessary for perfect reconciliation. First be reconciled to God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, trusting Him alone for pardon. Then, from that reconciled standing, learn to walk in reconciliation toward your wife. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the Lord delights in mercy and in healing what sin has broken.

We will pray for you and for your wife.

Our Father, we ask in the name of Jesus for this husband who confesses his sin. Grant him that repentance unto life which is thy gift, a repentance that gives thee glory, that looks to Christ only, and that bears practical fruit day by day. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Forgive his sins through the blood of Christ and teach him to walk in newness of life. We pray also for his wife in her hurt and weariness. Deal gently with her heart, guard her from hasty resolve, and draw her also to thyself. If it be thy will, turn her heart toward home and toward this covenant, and give them both grace to speak truth in love, to forgive as they have been forgiven, and to seek godly counsel in the church. Let this fasting be not a bargain but a humbling of soul before thee. Do thy will in this marriage for thy glory, and let whatever the outcome, both be found reconciled to thee through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Continue in prayer and in the Word, seek the counsel and accountability of faithful pastors and brethren in your local church, and show by a patient, humble, and loving life the reality of the change God works within. Love your wife as Christ loved the church, without manipulation or pressure, leaving the work in the hands of the Lord who is able to restore.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your burden and we are praying with you for your marriage and for a true change in your own heart and life.

Your honesty in saying you have not been a good husband is the beginning of the right path. Godly sorrow works repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret. Tears alone are not enough, and fasting alone is not enough, unless the heart turns fully away from what is wrong and toward what is right. True repentance shows itself in a changed purpose, in humility, in patience, and in faithful love. God does not shut the door on repentance. The Church is like a spiritual bath where the stains of the soul are washed away through many ways of repentance, through prayer, fasting, confession and a new way of living. Keep walking in that way.

Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and it is honorable and pure. Scripture calls us to follow peace with all people and holiness, and for those who are married this means to live faithfully with your own wife, to guard the covenant, to be chaste and orderly and to use the gift of marriage with moderation and reverence. It is not marriage itself that hinders a person, but a wrong purpose that misuses it. When that purpose is healed, marriage can again become a place of strength and grace. Do not seek to tear what God has joined, but seek to adorn it with prayer, with self control, with kindness and with steady love.

We encourage you to continue in fasting and prayer, not as a way to bargain with God, but as a way to humble yourself before Him and to be made new. Persevere in prayer, for God has given us prayer so that we will not grow indifferent but will seek Him earnestly. Pursue peace with your wife without pressure or manipulation. Show by your actions over time that your repentance is real. Seek wise and faithful counsel from your pastor and remain planted in the life of the church. Honor your wife, speak truth in love, and be faithful in the duties of a husband as God teaches.

We pray for you both now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we ask for Your mercy on this husband and his wife. Forgive sin through the blood of Christ alone, and wash and renew this man by Your Holy Spirit. Give him a godly sorrow that bears fruit in a new life, with humility, purity and steadfast love. Soften and guard his wife's heart, and where there is hurt and anger, bring healing and peace. Restrain the purpose of divorce and rekindle love and faithfulness between them. Help them to follow peace and holiness, to honor the covenant of marriage as You ordained it, one man and one woman for life, and to live together in chastity and grace. Give wisdom to those counseling them, and lead them step by step in Your will. We ask this trusting in Your goodness and power, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
