Marriage Ending

We hear the depth of your pain, and our hearts ache with yours as you walk through this valley of sorrow. The agony of a marriage ending is a heavy burden to bear, and we want you to know that you are not alone. The Lord sees your tears and collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8). He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

First, we must address the longing in your heart to "go home and be with Jesus." While we understand this desire comes from a place of deep pain, we must gently remind you that your life is not your own—it was bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The Lord has numbered your days, and He alone holds the authority over life and death (Job 14:5). We encourage you to surrender this longing to Him, trusting that He has a purpose for you here, even in the midst of this trial. If these thoughts persist, we urge you to seek godly counsel and support from those who can walk alongside you.

Marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect the relationship between Christ and His Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). When that covenant is broken, the pain is profound, and the grief is real. We rebuke the enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) in this situation. We declare that the thief has no place in your heart or your marriage. We pray that the Lord would expose any lies you’ve believed—lies that tell you this pain is unbearable, that you are alone, or that God has abandoned you. The truth is that God is close to you, and He is working all things together for your good, even when it doesn’t feel like it (Romans 8:28).

If there is any unrepentant sin in this situation—whether it be bitterness, unforgiveness, or even the breaking of the marriage covenant itself—we urge you to bring it before the Lord in humility. Confess it, turn from it, and receive His forgiveness (1 John 1:9). If there has been adultery, we pray for conviction and repentance for all involved. The Lord hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), but He also offers grace and healing to the brokenhearted.

We also want to encourage you to guard your heart against the temptation to seek comfort in ways that do not honor God. In times of deep pain, it can be easy to turn to things that provide temporary relief but lead to further bondage—whether it be isolation, substance abuse, or even entering into relationships that do not align with God’s design. We urge you to run to Jesus, the only true source of comfort and healing. Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is walking through the agony of a marriage ending. Lord, You see the depth of their pain, and You collect every tear they’ve shed. We ask that You would wrap Your arms around them and remind them that they are not alone. Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness that seeks to take root in their heart. We declare that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

Lord, we pray for healing—healing of their emotions, their mind, and their spirit. Mend the broken pieces of their heart and restore their soul. If there is any unrepentant sin in this situation, we ask that You would bring conviction and lead them to repentance. Father, we pray for their spouse as well. If there is hardness of heart, we ask that You would soften it. If there is sin, we ask that You would bring it to light and lead them to repentance.

We pray for wisdom and discernment as they navigate this difficult season. Give them the strength to forgive, even when it feels impossible. Help them to release bitterness and trust You with the outcome. Lord, we ask that You would surround them with godly community—people who will speak truth, offer support, and point them back to You.

Father, we also pray for protection over their heart. Guard them against the temptation to seek comfort in ways that do not honor You. Help them to run to You, the only true source of healing. Remind them of Your promises, that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, we ask that You would begin to restore their hope. Even in this valley, we pray that You would give them glimpses of Your faithfulness. Show them that You are working all things together for their good, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Help them to trust in Your timing and Your plan.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4). May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to cling to God’s Word. Meditate on Scriptures that speak of His faithfulness, His love, and His promises. Here are a few to start with:

- "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)
- "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147:3)
- "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
- "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

We also encourage you to seek out a biblical counselor or a trusted pastor who can walk with you through this season. You do not have to carry this burden alone. The body of Christ is here to support you, pray for you, and point you back to Jesus.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your identity is not found in your marital status. You are a child of God, deeply loved and cherished by Him. No matter what happens in this life, that truth will never change. Hold fast to Him, and He will sustain you.

We're here with you, friend, and we want you to know that we're lifting you up in prayer. We understand that the pain of a marriage ending can feel overwhelming, like you're drowning in a sea of sorrow. But remember, even in the darkest storms, Jesus is right there with you, holding you up, keeping you afloat.

We want to remind you of the promise in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." He sees you, He knows your pain, and He's right there with you, every step of the way.

We're also reminded of the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." He's inviting you to come to Him, to lay down your heavy burden, and to find rest in Him.

We're praying for you, that God would comfort you in your sorrow, that He would heal your broken heart, and that He would give you the strength to face each day. We're also praying for your spouse, that God would soften their heart, that He would bring conviction where needed, and that He would lead them to repentance if necessary.

We want to encourage you to cling to God's promises, to meditate on His Word, and to seek out a trusted friend, counselor, or pastor who can walk with you through this difficult time. You don't have to bear this burden alone. The body of Christ is here to support you, to pray for you, and to point you back to Jesus.

And remember, no matter what happens, your identity is secure in Christ. You are a child of God, deeply loved and cherished by Him. Hold fast to Him, and He will sustain you through this trial.

We're praying for you, dear friend. We're here for you, and we're believing with you for God's healing, restoration, and ultimately, His glory to be revealed in your life.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
