Man that called off his wedding keeps begging for another chance

Beloved of All
Man that called off his wedding keeps begging for another chance. He and his girlfriend had a child out of wedlock when the child was born he and she got a marriage license but then he said he'd give a wedding when he thought he'd get enough money. Then nine years later he called off their wedding. Shortly before calling off their wedding he started using physical abuse, verbal abuse against her. Then they split up for good. The man is now severely addicted to alcohol and sleeping pills. He keeps asking her to get back with him. He now says he wants more kids years after he had told her to get on various birth controls. He said to her recently he wants to do a wedding with her this time. But the lady doesn't believe anything he says anymore. Please pray for ###.

We grieve with you over this painful and deeply broken situation, and we lift this up before the Lord with urgency, seeking His wisdom, protection, and redemption. The Scriptures are clear that God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and desires reconciliation where there is genuine repentance, but He also calls us to flee from abuse, unbelief, and unrepentant sin. This man’s actions—abandoning his commitment, abusing the woman he was to cherish, and now begging for another chance while still enslaved to addiction—do not reflect the fruit of true repentance. The Bible warns us in **1 John 3:10**, *"In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother."* His words may sound remorseful, but his life does not yet bear the evidence of a transformed heart surrendered to Christ.

To the woman in this situation, we urge you to seek the Lord’s protection and discernment above all else. **Proverbs 22:3** tells us, *"A prudent man sees danger and hides; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it."* Returning to this man without clear, lasting evidence of repentance—especially while he remains in bondage to alcohol, drugs, and abusive behavior—would place you and your child in grave spiritual and physical danger. The Lord does not call His daughters to endure abuse in the name of "love" or "forgiveness." **Ephesians 5:25** commands husbands to *"love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it."* This man’s actions have been the opposite of Christlike sacrifice; they have been selfish, destructive, and unfaithful.

We also must address the sin of fornication that began this relationship. **1 Corinthians 6:18** commands, *"Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body."* While God’s grace covers all sin for those who repent, this relationship was built outside of His design from the beginning. True marriage is a covenant before God, not a transaction based on financial readiness or convenience. **Hebrews 13:4** declares, *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers."*

As for this man’s addictions and pleading, we pray that the Lord would break his heart of stone and grant him *genuine* repentance—not just sorrow for the consequences of his sin, but a turning away from it in surrender to Christ. **2 Corinthians 7:10** says, *"For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death."* His desire for more children now, after pressuring her to prevent conception, reveals a man still driven by his own fleshly desires rather than the selfless love of Christ. Until he turns from his sin and seeks the Lord with his whole heart, his words cannot be trusted.

We pray now with fervency and broken hearts:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this shattered situation. Lord, You see the pain, the betrayal, the addiction, and the abuse that have marked this relationship. We ask for Your divine intervention—first, for the protection and healing of this woman and her child. Guard her heart, mind, and body from further harm, Lord. Give her wisdom to discern truth from manipulation, and surround her with godly counsel and support. Do not let her be deceived by empty words or false promises, but let her find her worth and security in You alone.

Father, we also cry out for this man. Break the chains of alcohol and drug addiction that enslave him. Convict him deeply of his sin—not just the sorrow of losing this woman, but the weight of his rebellion against You. Bring him to his knees in true repentance, Lord. Let him encounter Your holiness in a way that shatters his pride and self-will. If it is Your will, raise up godly men to disciple him and lead him to freedom in Christ. But do not let him return to this woman unless he is truly born again, walking in obedience, and bearing the fruit of the Spirit.

Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s lies that would keep this woman bound to a man who does not honor You or cherish her as Christ loves the church. If this relationship is not of You, sever it completely, and bring godly, redeeming relationships into both of their lives. For the child caught in the middle, we ask for Your hand of protection and grace. Let this little one know Your love and grow up to walk in Your ways, breaking the cycle of sin.

Father, we declare that Your will be done in this situation. If there is any hope for restoration, let it come only through Your miraculous work of repentance and transformation. But if this man hardens his heart, we ask that You close the door permanently and lead this woman into a future where she is loved as You intend. Give her the strength to forgive, but also the wisdom to walk away if necessary.

We ask all this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Healer. Amen.

To the woman reading this: **Do not return to this man unless you see undeniable, lasting evidence of repentance confirmed by godly counsel.** The Lord loves you and does not want you to live in fear, abuse, or instability. Seek the Lord first, and trust Him to guide your steps. If you have not already, we urge you to connect with a biblical church where you can receive pastoral care and support. You are not alone—God sees you, and He will never forsake you. **Psalm 34:18** promises, *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."* Cling to Him, and let Him restore what the enemy has stolen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
