We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this burden to the Lord. Maladaptive daydreaming can become a heavy chain, pulling you away from the present and the healing God desires for you. It may feel like an escape, but Scripture reminds us that true peace is found in Christ, not in the illusions of our minds. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 WEB). He is the only refuge that does not leave us empty or enslaved.
Your struggle with PTSD is real, and we do not dismiss the pain that led you to this coping mechanism. But we must rebuke the lie that this habit is harmless or beyond God’s power to break. The enemy would love to keep you trapped in a cycle of avoidance, but God calls you to freedom. "For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 WEB). This habit is a stronghold, but it is not stronger than the name of Jesus.
We also gently address the hesitation you feel about letting go. It’s understandable to cling to what feels familiar, even if it’s harmful, but God’s plans for you are for good, not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11 WEB). He does not want you to merely escape pain, He wants to heal it. The apostle Paul wrote, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). God provides a way out, and He is calling you to take it.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who is bound by the habit of maladaptive daydreaming. Lord, You see the pain that led them to this place, and You alone can heal the wounds of their heart. We ask that You break the chains of this stronghold and replace the false refuge of daydreaming with the true peace that only comes from You. Father, renew their mind according to Your Word, and help them to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Give them the strength to resist the temptation to escape and the courage to face reality with You by their side.
Lord, we pray for healing from the PTSD that has contributed to this struggle. Pour out Your comfort and restoration, and replace the lies of the enemy with Your truth. Help them to trust in Your goodness and to believe that You are working all things together for their good. Surround them with godly community and wise counsel to support them in this battle.
Father, we rebuke the spirit of escapism and declare that this habit has no place in their life. We speak freedom over them in Jesus’ name. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in the light of Your presence and find their rest in You alone. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the victory that is already theirs in Christ. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to take practical steps alongside prayer. Consider reaching out to a trusted pastor, biblical counselor, or Christian therapist who can help you address the root of this struggle. Scripture tells us, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective" (James 5:16 WEB). You do not have to fight this battle alone.
Also, fill your mind with God’s Word. Memorize verses that speak to your struggle, such as Philippians 4:8 WEB: "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things." Replace the time spent in daydreaming with prayer, worship, and meditation on Scripture. The more you fill your mind with truth, the less room there will be for the lies that keep you trapped.
Lastly, we want to remind you that your identity is not found in this struggle. You are a child of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and called to walk in freedom. "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36 WEB). Hold fast to that truth, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9 WEB). We are standing with you in faith, believing that God is at work in your life.
