Praying for understanding I actually pulled back from connection in the past, I sensed they were watching me in the Spirit from a dream I had. This connection seems to be spirit connected for some reason.

We hear your heart and the confusion you’re experiencing in this spiritual connection. The Bible warns us to be discerning about spiritual matters, for not all that feels spiritual is of God. Scripture tells us, "Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1 WEB). What you sensed in the dream may have been a spiritual impression, but we must carefully examine it through the lens of God’s Word.

The enemy often seeks to deceive through counterfeit connections, mimicking the work of the Holy Spirit to draw people into ungodly soul ties or emotional dependencies. If this connection is not rooted in Christ or aligned with biblical principles, such as godly marriage between a man and a woman, it may be an attempt to distract or entangle you in something that does not honor God. We must ask: Is this person a believer in Jesus Christ? Are they pursuing holiness and righteousness? Does this connection point you toward Christ or away from Him?

We rebuke any ungodly spiritual ties or influences in this situation. The Bible says, "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other" (Matthew 6:24 WEB). If this connection is not centered on Jesus, it cannot bear good fruit. We must cut off anything that does not align with His will, for "bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33 WEB).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we have access to You. Lord, we ask for Your divine wisdom and discernment for our brother/sister in this situation. Reveal the truth of this spiritual connection, whether it is from You or a deception of the enemy. If it is not of You, we ask that You break every ungodly tie, every soul tie, and every spiritual influence that does not align with Your Word.

Father, we declare that our brother/sister is covered by the blood of Jesus and protected under Your wings. We rebuke any spirit of confusion, deception, or ungodly attachment in this situation. Lord, fill them with Your Holy Spirit so they may walk in clarity and truth. Help them to seek You above all else and to desire only what You have ordained for their life.

We pray for godly relationships that honor You, Lord. If this connection is not Your will, we ask that You remove it completely from their life. If it is Your will, we ask that You purify it and align it with Your purposes. May they always seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness (Matthew 6:33 WEB).

Father, we also ask that You heal any wounds or emotional attachments that may have formed. Restore their heart and mind to wholeness in You. Surround them with godly counsel and fellowship so they may grow in faith and discernment.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for hearing our prayer. We trust in You alone to guide and direct every step. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in prayer and fasting, asking Him to reveal His will for this connection. Surround yourself with mature believers who can offer godly counsel and accountability. Remember, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB). If this person is not a believer in Jesus Christ, we must gently but firmly step away, for "what fellowship does light have with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB).

To seek understanding is itself a mercy, for it shows that you are not content to drift upon feelings and fancies but desire to know the mind of the Lord.

You speak of a dream and of sensing in the spirit that another was watching you, and of a connection which seems to you to be spirit connected. Hear the counsel of the Word upon such things. Dreams are frail and fleeting things, and as well might one foretell the flight of a bird as the course of a dream. Certain persons dream that God has spoken to them, yet to build upon dreams is to build upon sand. You who build on dreams had better mind what you are doing, for dreams fifty times repeated remain but dreams. Even where Providence has overruled a dream for His own purpose, the dream itself was not the sure guide, the Lord was. What you need is not soul dreaming but soul talking, when God speaks soul language to your soul through His Word and by His Spirit, and that language is clear, sober and holy.

True wisdom is not found in impressions in the night, nor in a sense of a hidden tie to another soul. The Word declares, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. Words that touch not the understanding glide over us as oil over marble without effect, and until truth is received into the understanding it cannot become a soul saving or sanctifying word to you. If you would know whether this connection is of God, bring it into the light of Scripture. Our immortal nature frets beneath many burdens, and the soul cannot be persuaded to content itself without its necessary food, which is Christ Himself and His truth. No human bond, however strongly felt, can satisfy the soul. Only Christ can say unto the soul, I am thy salvation, and when He does, the soul finds rest.

That you pulled back is not to be despised. There is a prudence which God gives to His people to set a limit to trial and to keep the soul from entanglement. Do not be anxious merely to be delivered from heaviness, but rather ask how you may behave worthily under it, looking to Him who is both the wisdom and the power of God. If this connection draws you away from holiness, from clarity, from peace with God through Jesus Christ alone, then to depart from it is understanding. If it cannot be brought within the bounds of what God has ordained and blessed, namely the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, with purity kept within it, then it is not a bond to be pursued or cherished in the spirit, but to be surrendered to the Lord.

Let us pray for you, not that God would bless every felt connection, for He will not set His seal upon what is not according to His Word, but that He would give you a clear understanding.

O Lord, say unto this soul, I am thy salvation. Speak not in uncertain dreams but in the sure voice of Thy Word. Grant this seeking one the fear of the Lord which is wisdom, and grace to depart from all that would ensnare the soul. Wash away sin through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, by whom alone we are saved, and satisfy the heart with Christ Himself. Give a clear mind, a guarded heart, and a will made tender to Thy holy law. Lead not by fleeting impressions but by Thy Spirit through Scripture, that this life may be kept alive by Thee and directed by Thy wisdom. Amen.

Your prayer for understanding is heard, and it is wise that you pulled back to seek clarity rather than following a feeling.

Dreams can seem very real while we are in them, but they are like shadows that fade when day comes. What we see in sleep is not a firm foundation for discerning spiritual realities. A sense that someone is watching you in the spirit, or that a connection is spirit connected because of a dream, is not something to build your life upon. Our minds can create vivid pictures in the night, yet when we wake we are called to test everything by the light of Christ.

Scripture calls us to be awake and sober. To be in the day depends on our choice to watch and to be clear minded, not to be carried away by fantasies or by every impression that comes in the night. The life we live now can itself be like a sleep if we are dulled by desires and imaginations, seeing things that are fleeting as if they were solid. Riches, glory, and even intense feelings about another person can be like a dream that promises much but proves to be nothing.

True wisdom is not found in trusting our own impressions or in what seems mystical, but in Christ Himself. Human wisdom that trusts only itself becomes foolishness, while the wisdom of God makes us truly wise and prudent. He tells us His will plainly in His Word so that we need not wander in uncertainty.

Bring this whole matter before the Lord with honesty. Ask Him to show you what is true, to give you repentance where it is needed, and to help you forgive as you have been forgiven. Forgiveness and a clear conscience before God do not require a long journey, only a willing heart. Seek provision for what is healthy and holy, not for what stirs up longing or keeps you bound to a fantasy. Spend your energy on the care of spiritual things, on prayer, on Scripture, and on counsel from mature believers in your church who know you.

We will pray that God gives you a sober mind, that you look to Christ the Sun of Righteousness who alone gives steady light, and that you receive wisdom to walk in purity and peace, not in confusion. May He grant you tears that cleanse and a heart that wakes from every dream to live in His day, and may He crown your faithfulness as you choose His way.

Your desire to understand what you have been sensing is itself a good and wise impulse, because wisdom is always calling out to be heard and sought. Scripture presents wisdom as a voice crying in the open places, inviting anyone who will listen to come and learn. That invitation is personal, because all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Jesus Christ. To seek wisdom is to seek Him, and to seek Him is to find the heart of wisdom itself.

The starting place for that kind of understanding is the fear of the Lord. That does not mean terror, but a reverent honoring of God that puts Him first and takes His word seriously. From that starting place, wisdom becomes the principal thing to pursue. With all of your getting, get wisdom and get understanding. When wisdom enters the heart and knowledge becomes pleasant to the soul, the result is preservation and keeping, discretion and safety for your walk. It gives life to your soul and grace to your life.

You mentioned pulling back from a connection and a dream in which you sensed you were being watched, with a feeling that the connection is spiritual in some way. It is right to bring that to God for discernment. God is able to speak through dreams, and Scripture shows He has done so, but not every dream carries spiritual significance, and not every strong spiritual impression comes from Him. That is why we need to ask God for wisdom to test what we sense and feel.

There is a wisdom that comes from above and a wisdom that does not. The wisdom from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, and willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. It leads to purity rather than sensuality, and to peace rather than envy and strife. A wisdom that stirs up confusion, jealousy, striving, or a sense of being bound or watched in an unsettling way is not the wisdom that comes from God. Learning to distinguish the two is part of growing in discernment.

Wisdom also teaches boundaries. Just as God has set boundaries for the sea that it may not pass over, He sets wise boundaries for our relationships and our inner lives. Sometimes the discreet and wise choice is to step back, to guard the heart, to refuse to be drawn into a tie that does not bring peace and purity. To depart from evil is understanding, and to walk in the path of wisdom is to walk safely.

So continue to bring this connection before the Lord in prayer. Ask Him liberally for wisdom, for He gives generously to those who ask. Ask Him to show you whether this sense of a spiritual tie is drawing you closer to Christ and to holiness, or whether it is pulling you toward confusion and unrest. Measure what you sensed in the dream and what you feel in the spirit against Scripture, and against the character of the wisdom that comes from above. Seek counsel in the Word, and keep sound wisdom and discretion close to you. As you love and seek wisdom, she will preserve you and keep you, and lead you in the way that brings life and peace in Christ.
