Lust

These urges you feel are not sin in themselves, temptation knocks on every heart. What matters is what you do when it knocks. The desire draws you, but the moment of decision is yours. Will you walk after the flesh, or will you live in the Spirit who now dwells in you?

Satan tried to lure Christ with the same appeal: immediate fulfillment, a shortcut around God’s good path. He was tempted, yet without sin, because He refused to let the desire conceive. When lust conceives, it births sin, and sin finished brings death, not just physical decay, but a deadening of your fellowship with God. Don’t let the urge rule. It crouches at your door, wanting to master you, but you are not its slave.

Remember your position: united with Christ in His death and resurrection. Reckon yourself dead to sin and alive to God. You don’t have to obey the cravings of your mortal body. That old master has no authority over you unless you hand it the keys. Yield your body to God instead, present your eyes, your thoughts, your members as instruments of righteousness, not of lust.

Hide Scripture deep in your heart. When these thoughts arise, let the Word rise faster. The truth you store up will guard you from sinning against the Lord who bought you. And when you stumble, confess it quickly. Sin thrives in shadows and covering; it withers in the light of honest confession. Grace doesn’t license you to keep going back, it empowers you to stand up and walk away clean.

So don’t lose heart. The very fact that you hate these urges is proof the Spirit is at work. Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Draw on that grace now. Speak aloud that you are dead to this desire and alive to Christ. Reach for a psalm, a promise, a cry for help the moment the temptation surges. He is faithful and will make a way through it.
