We hear the longing in your heart and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord together, asking for His will to be done in this relationship and for His peace to guard you as you see this young man tomorrow.
We understand how deeply you care for him and how much you desire reconciliation, and we pray with you that if it is the Lord's will, He will provide a quiet and appropriate moment for you to speak openly and to sort through the problems between you with grace and honesty. We are reminded of the call in Romans 12:18, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, and in Ephesians 4:2-3 to walk with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We encourage you to approach this conversation not only with hope for restoration but with humility, patience, and a willingness to listen, and to respect his response even if he is not ready to talk. True love, as described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, is patient and is kind, is not self-seeking, and bears all things, and that kind of love seeks what honors God above what simply fulfills our own desires.
Because you speak of love and of believing he may be the one, we want to gently encourage you to view this relationship through the lens of biblical courtship. We believe that being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be considered courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer, for marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that is meant to honor God as outlined in Genesis 2:24. If this man is to be your future husband, it is vital that he be a believer in Jesus Christ, for we are taught in 2 Corinthians 6:14 not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. We also encourage you to keep this courtship pure before the Lord, honoring Him with your bodies and your hearts, for sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and does not align with God's design for love, as we are called in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 to abstain from sexual immorality and to possess our bodies in sanctification and honor. We pray that you both would seek God's wisdom together about whether this relationship is leading toward a godly marriage that honors Him, rather than simply following feelings, and we encourage you to trust Him with the outcome as Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to come to God in His name, for when we pray in Jesus' name we come according to His will and His righteousness, not our own.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our sister to Your throne of grace. You know her heart, her love for this young man, and the hurt and unresolved matters between them. We ask that You would grant her Your peace that surpasses all understanding as promised in Philippians 4:6-7, and that You would calm her anxious thoughts as she prepares for tomorrow. Lord, if it is Your will, we ask that You would open a door for them to speak in a quiet, respectful, and safe moment at the event, and give them both wisdom and gracious words as James 1:5 promises that if any of us lacks wisdom, You give generously. Help them to speak the truth in love, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to seek reconciliation that honors You. We pray that You would guide this relationship according to Your perfect plan, that if this man is to be her husband, You would make that clear and draw them both closer to You and toward a Christ centered marriage, and if not, that You would give her the strength to surrender her desires to You and to trust that You have good plans for her. Guard her heart from idolatry of this relationship and help her to seek first Your kingdom. Keep them both pure and holy in their conduct toward one another. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to commit tomorrow to the Lord in prayer before you go, to remain calm and gracious whether or not the opportunity to talk alone arises, and to not press or corner him but to allow the conversation to happen naturally and with mutual respect. After the event, seek wise godly counsel from a mature believer or pastor who can help you discern the next steps. Continue to pray that God's will, not just your own hope, would be done, trusting that He loves you deeply and will lead you in the right path.
