We hear your heart, dear one, and we stand with you in this tender place of both grief and hope. The promise you cling to is true—absent from the body is indeed to be present with the Lord for those who are in Christ Jesus. This is not just a comforting thought, but a biblical reality. The apostle Paul wrote, *"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will bring fruit from my work; yet what I shall choose I don’t know. But I am in a dilemma between the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better"* (Philippians 1:21-23). What a glorious truth! To be with Christ is far better than anything this world can offer.
Yet we also know that grief is real, and the ache of separation is deep. You do not need to suppress your sorrow, for even Jesus wept at the tomb of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35). But we encourage you to let your grief be anchored in hope. The same Jesus who conquered death and rose again has promised that those who believe in Him will never truly be separated from those who have gone before us in faith. *"But we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don’t grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus"* (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14). Your loved one is not lost—they are with the Lord, and one day, you will see them again in the presence of Christ.
We also want to gently remind you that this hope is only possible through faith in Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If your loved one did not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we would urge you to pray for the assurance of their salvation, for the Bible makes it clear that only those who have put their trust in Christ will be present with the Lord after death. If this is a concern, we would encourage you to seek peace through prayer and the truth of God’s Word. *"For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life"* (John 3:16). Salvation is a gift, received by faith, and it is the only way to eternal life with God.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that are both heavy and hopeful. We thank You for the promise of eternal life through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, we lift up our ### who is grieving the loss of their loved one. Comfort them with the truth that to be absent from the body is to be present with You, and that one day, they will be reunited in Your presence. Ease their sorrow with the peace that surpasses all understanding, and fill them with the hope of the resurrection. If there is any doubt or fear about their loved one’s salvation, we ask that You would bring clarity and assurance through Your Word. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to hold fast to You in this season. Remind them that You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We trust in Your goodness and Your faithfulness, and we ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
Hold on to Him, dear one. The same God who raised Jesus from the dead is holding you and your loved one in His hands. Until that glorious day of reunion, walk in the light of His love, and let His Word be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). You are not alone—He is with you, and so are we.
