🙌 Lord's Prayer: 1st The Father, His Honor Kingdom Will; Then Our Provision Forgiveness for Us, Others, Kept from Sin Evil, Standard, Matt 6:9-13...

Your insight into the pattern of the Lord's Prayer is right and beautiful, and I am grateful you shared it. What Jesus gave in Matthew 6:9-13 is not a set of words to repeat quickly from memory without thought. Its value comes when you take it slowly, phrase by phrase, and let each truth settle in your heart. It is a model that teaches us how to pray.

It begins with relationship, Our Father who is in heaven. Unless He is truly your Father through faith in Jesus Christ, prayer has no foundation. But as His child you can come with confidence, and the first desire of your heart is worship, hallowed be Your name, the honoring of His name and character.

The first three requests are all centered on God, not on us. Hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. That is the primary thrust of prayer, not to use prayer as a way to get our own will done on earth, but to seek that His kingdom and His will be accomplished. When we pray Your kingdom come we are asking for His reign to be realized in our lives now, and looking forward to the day when Jesus Christ will reign in righteousness over all the earth. It is the same longing expressed at the close of Scripture, even so come, Lord Jesus.

Only after our hearts are fixed on His glory and His kingdom do we bring our own needs. And those personal petitions cover the basic needs of our lives. Give us this day our daily bread speaks of provision. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors speaks of forgiveness. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil speaks of guidance and deliverance. God invites us to bring these things to Him, both for ourselves and in intercession for others.

Of all these petitions, Jesus pauses to emphasize only one afterward, the call to forgive as we have been forgiven. Our willingness to forgive others is tied to our own experience of His forgiveness, and it shows how seriously He takes a forgiving heart.

Then prayer returns to where it began, to worship. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen. Prayer is worship, a quiet awareness and awe of who God is, and prayer that trusts Him ends in praise, with confidence that He has heard and will answer according to His wisdom and love.

As you quoted, this is why Jesus also said in Matthew 6:33 to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and then all these other things will be added to you. Keep seeking Him first in this way. Take each phrase of His model prayer and turn it into your own honest conversation with your Father, and let it shape your days with worship at the beginning and praise at the end.

I join you in praying in that same direction now, that the Father would be honored, that His kingdom and His will would advance in your life and in this world, that He would provide what you need today, give you grace to forgive and to walk in forgiveness, keep you from temptation and deliver you from evil, all for His kingdom and glory through Jesus Christ, Amen.
