LORD, RESCUE ME FROM EVERY EVIL ATTACK!
But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. 2 Timothy 4:17-18
One night years ago, I walked out our office door and started walking to my car, which was parked at the last parking space. Almost instantly, there was a man trying to grab my purse, screaming and chasing me to my car. I did not have automatic locks on my car many years ago, so only by the grace of God I got the key in the lock, but the burglar was fighting the car door trying to get me and my purse. Yes, I forgot the rule, give him the purse! He was stronger and won. He took my purse into a field and took out what he wanted. I got into my car and went to the 7-11 convenience store right behind our office. I could hardly get out of my car, but opened their door to call the police.
Tom, our son, who at that time was in Pompano Youth Explorer, just then “happened†to drive by honking his horn at me. I ran out into the street screaming and waving my hands for him to turn around. He saw me and within a few minutes, the police arrived. The burglar called out on my cell phone that very evening. The police were able to arrest the man the next day. He told the police where he threw away my purse. I got my billfold back with all my credit cards! God protected my belongings.
Go forward a few years later. We received a telephone call from our daughter, Lori. She said, “Guess what just happened? I've had police at our house taking fingerprints.†It seems a neighbor from across the street came knocking at Lori’s door to see if she had seen or heard anything unusual within the hour. She said, “Now that you mention it, yes I did.†She then explained to the neighbor, who is also a policeman, about hearing a very loud noise at the front door half an hour before.
She thought, “What is the mailman doing?†Then it stopped and she continued working. It appears there was a man going door to door, attempting to break into a house. He was obviously going to find some money or to take what was not his. Unfortunately for the neighbor, the suspect did try harder to get into their house and caused damage to his front door.
I prayed with Lori immediately and thanked the Lord for His divine protection in protecting Lori and her two children who were home. I also thought how every day I pray putting the Armor of God on our entire family, the hedge of protection and a wall of fire around us, our homes, property, finances and health. I am just praising the Lord for His protection against an attack from an enemy.
Are you putting the Armor of God and the Hedge of Protection on you, your spouse and children every day?
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.†John 10:10
Are you under attack with marriage problems, a divorce, financial hardship, or health problems? You may be under attack from your spouse blaming you for the failure of your marriage. Your children may be under attack from the world's temptations of rebelling in different ways such as drugs, alcohol, or sexual temptations as a teenager. What are you to do? Cry out to your Lord. Know that your Lord God is your Defender and Protector from the enemy and all his tricks and schemes.
Let me share just a few powerful scriptures for you to know and claim for you and your family:
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Psalm 32:7-8
Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me. Psalm 59:1
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed… “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.†John 17:1, 15
You may know Psalm 91, which is very well known by our military as a Psalm they can claim for their own protection from their enemies. Have you read Psalm 91 recently? If not, read it as part of your devotions tonight. Here are just a few of the verses:
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.†Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence....If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the LORD, who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;...You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,†says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.†Psalm 91:2-3, 9-11, 13-15
What does the word attack mean? A few meanings of the word from The American College Dictionary are:to set upon with force or weapons; begin hostilities against; to direct unfavorable criticism, argument, etc. against; blame or abuse violently.
Do not allow the attacks from the enemy to give you fear, but choose to walk in faith. Believe in the power of your Lord God and know that He is right there beside you, giving you strength, wisdom and knowledge for every situation that you are facing. Your Lord wants you to stand up for the righteousness of God. He wants you to grow in the Lord and continue to be more Christ-like every day. He wants you to be a godly example to your children, to people where you work, to your family and loved ones.
Your Lord wants you to proclaim that marriage is forever. It is a commitment and you need to say, “I am not going to give up on my spouse even though my spouse may not know the Lord, or they are fighting addictions or they have been tempted and have fallen into sexual sin.†Your marriage is under attack, but God will rescue you, your spouse and deliver your family from the attacks of the enemy.
Do you believe that your Lord God is able to rout and defeat your enemies? Never forget that the Lord does not want you to be attacked, but He will come to your rescue! Let me share a promise that I received when I was standing for our marriage to be restored.
“In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near you. If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you. See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,†declares the LORD. Isaiah 54:14-17
Never forget that your spouse is not the enemy that you are fighting, but it is Satan, the deceiver and liar. Believe and know who you are in Christ. Jesus Christ has defeated the enemy who is trying to attack and destroy your marriage forever. Seek your Lord daily for His wisdom, His knowledge, His direction and answers. God's way is the only way. Now stand firm in the Lord as He will never leave you, He will protect you and your family forever.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12
