Lord, please take the pain away from my stomach where there is pain

Your honest prayer about pain in your stomach and the disappointment that comes with it has been heard, and God cares about both the physical hurt and the heaviness you feel inside.

Scripture shows that Jesus is concerned with the body as well as the soul. When Matthew writes about the evening at Peter's house, he describes many sick people being brought to Jesus and Jesus healing them, and he connects that to the prophecy in Isaiah that He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. When we remember the bread at communion, we remember His body broken for us, and that includes what He has done to carry our physical suffering as well as to forgive our sins. There are times when friends brought a paralyzed man to Jesus hoping for a physical healing, and Jesus first said your sins are forgiven. That may have been disappointing to them at first, but it shows that His deepest healing is spiritual, even as He also heals the body.

I do believe God still heals today, and that He heals in different ways. Sometimes healing is immediate and felt in a moment. Sometimes it is gradual, working through the natural processes God Himself placed in our bodies. That gradual process is no less divine, because God created those processes and He works through them. The Bible also shows that not everyone is healed instantly even when prayer is offered. Paul loved Timothy as a son, prayed for him, and yet Timothy continued to struggle with frequent stomach problems and other weaknesses. Paul then gave him practical counsel for his stomach, which tells us that prayer and practical care can go together, and that continued sickness is not necessarily a sign of lack of faith or something wrong in your life. There are purposes of God that we do not fully understand, and why some are healed quickly and others walk through a longer process is one of those things we leave in His hands.

Living in this fallen world means our bodies groan and know pain and weakness. That pain entered through sin, and our bodies are still subject to it while we wait for the redemption God has promised. God knows that groaning, and He knows the disappointment that comes when pain lingers. Even from the beginning there was disappointment in human life, and God sees that as well.

So keep bringing this stomach pain to the Lord in prayer. He invites you to ask Him for healing and to trust His compassion. It is also wise to seek good medical care and to use the means God has provided for health, just as Paul encouraged Timothy to take a practical step for his stomach. God can work through prayer, through medicine, through rest and care for the body, and through His own direct touch.

May the Lord touch your stomach and bring relief, whether in a moment or through a gradual restoring. May He also heal the disappointment and bring peace to your heart as you rest in the forgiveness and nearness of Jesus, who bore your sicknesses and your sins and who understands your suffering. I am praying that you will know His presence, His comfort, and His healing power in the way He knows is best, and that you will be strengthened in body and in spirit as you trust Him.
