The cry of your heart for your sick one rises before the throne, and it is well that you have brought her in prayer to the Great Physician. Yet while we plead for her body, let us never forget the deeper sickness that afflicts every soul by nature. There is no fever so burning, no pressure so crushing, as the malady of sin. But I am glad when a soul is brought low by this realization, for it is a sickness that ends in everlasting health through the healing Word of God. Jesus Christ Himself is the Word, sent to cure sin-sick souls, and once He heals, there is no relapse into eternal death.
Though this body lies hot and burdened, lift your eyes from the present distress to the never-failing promise. The Lord has said, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you." His mercy, coming through the atoning blood, is wide enough for every extremity. There is not a blessing too lofty, nor a mercy too extensive, for those who look to Him. When friends fail and the shadows gather, His covenant stands firm. The blood of the Everlasting Covenant, shed by the Great Shepherd who was brought again from the dead, can make you perfect in every good work, even in trusting Him in this dark hour.
And what of that tree of life whose leaves are for the healing of the nations? The least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue. If the very leaves can heal, how much more the fruit of His body broken and His blood outpoured! Those leaves can cool the fevered brow of the spirit and change the very life-blood of the nature. And if they bring immortal health in Heaven, they can surely bring comfort and restoration on earth. Your sick one may feel her weakness, but she need not dare to take hold of Christ, the healing is offered freely.
They brought all manner of sickness to Him as the sun was setting, and He healed them all. There is no disease, however high the blood pressure or fierce the fever, that lies beyond His power. But the cure He purchased came through His own agony, when He sweat great drops of blood and bowed His head in death. That is the medicine He drained for us, the bitter cup He drank that we might have healing. Look to that blood; it speaks better things than the blood of Abel, which cried for vengeance. The blood of Jesus speaks pardon, cleansing, and peace.
Do not forget, healing and pardon are placed side by side. When Jesus healed the palsied man, He first said, "Your sins are forgiven you." Seek, then, for your grandmother first the forgiveness that brings eternal healing to her soul, and then trust for the body. If she is in Christ, the sickness of this hour is but a light thing compared to the perfect health that awaits. The Lord will come and dwell with the contrite, and the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings.
The power to heal is present where Christ is faithfully taught, and you have brought her in prayer to the feet of Jesus, breaking through the roof of unbelief. His word of pardon is one and the same with His word of command to the disease. That same divine authority that said, "Your sins be forgiven you," also said, "Arise, take up your bed, and walk." So cry to Him for all manner of healing, for the soul first, and then for the fevered frame. May the God of peace, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, work His perfect will, and may you both know the deep, profound peace that nothing can rival. God bless you.
