Lord, Open Their Eyes -
Turn Them From Darkness
"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" Matthew 6:22-23
God says throughout the Bible, He will set the captives and prisoners free. He will give sight to the blind, and heal the sick. Ask the Lord daily to do this for your spouse and believe in faith that He will do it! As it is written in the Word, it is God's will for all sinners to be saved. Pray for your husband, wife or child to receive healing from their spiritual blindness caused by sin.
Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Isaiah 35:5
Do you know of someone who has chosen to run from the responsibility of being a wife or a husband, a mother or father, being a daughter or a son? Pray for them. I believe the Lord works mightily on weekends for the standers who are praying for their beloved husband, wife or prodigal child to repent to the Lord and then turn their heart back to their waiting spouse and family. I know that the Lord can speak loudly and strongly to the many prodigal spouses who are often busy during the week. Many prodigals may try to stay busy on the weekends, but I know the Lord can turn up His voice to shout to His children to turn from their sinful lifestyles. God hates wickedness and wants every person to pursue righteousness, peace and love.
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart...Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. 2 Timothy 2:22, 25-26
May I remind you never to forget Saul who had an encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. Saul who persecuted and killed Christians, then received an assignment to go and preach the Gospel to those in Jerusalem, Judea and to the Gentiles. Let me share part of Paul's testimony when he was in prison as he spoke before King Agrippa. He told King Agrippa how bad he had been prior to his encounter with Jesus.
"Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead? I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the saints in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. In my obsession against them, I even went to foreign cities to persecute them." Acts 26:8-11
Do you really believe that God changes people? Have you heard of testimonies of people having life-changing experiences from drugs and alcohol to becoming strong men/women of God? Do you believe that your Lord can change your spouse that way? The answer to these questions is "Yes!" God is in the people-changing business. He touches people's hearts and changes people completely from the inside out. Sometimes it is instantly and other times it is a spiritual process as a baby growing in the Lord.
We must praise the Lord that there are many men and women who failed as a husband or wife not necessarily in adultery, but by being abusive or selfish to the point that their spouse left them and filed for divorce. These men and women who did not know the Lord have now had their own Damascus Road experiences. They are now standing firm for their husband's or wife's wounded, hardened heart to be softened by God.
One day this week I was praying for many couples by name by putting their husband's or wife's name in a specific scripture. The more I prayed, the more powerful the scripture seemed to me. Let me share this scripture:
"'To open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'" Acts 26:18
This is a scripture that Paul used while sharing his testimony to King Agrippa in Acts 26. (Read as part of your devotions today.)
Let me suggest you pray this scripture also for your husband or wife to be touched by the Holy Spirit. Let me share the points below:
1. Open their eyes - open their understanding.
2. In order to turn your spouse from darkness to light.
3. Turn them from the power of Satan to God.
4. Your spouse will then receive forgiveness of their sins.
5. Forgiveness is an inheritance being a child of the King, because Jesus Christ died and shed His Blood on the cross at Calvary.
6. When your spouse is forgiven and delivered from the control of sin and Satan, they are sanctified, saved by faith in Jesus Christ.
"I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them." Isaiah 42:16
What a promise! God can and is touching and changing men and women every day. Don't give up! God is moving every day in different ways in your spouse's life. Keep your eyes on your Lord and not on your spouse.
Are you growing and maturing in the Lord? Are you burdened and praying for your husband or wife and all your family members to be saved? Are you praying for all marriages around the world to be restored? Are you praying scriptures with spouse's name in them? Please try to make a commitment to pray one or two scriptures with your spouse's name in them daily!
Let me share the scripture above from Acts 26:18 written in a prayer that you can pray:
"Lord, I am praying for my husband/wife (name) and for every prodigal who is away from you. Lord, you know where every spouse is in the pigpen of life away from their families. Lord, open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in You. Lord, go and bring my husband/wife home quickly. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen."
I know that all prodigals who have returned home, (and there are many) are very thankful that their spouse did not give up on them! Don't give up on your spouse! God is able!
