Your cry has already reached the ear of Him who never forgets His people, for the very utterance, Lord Jesus please intervene, is prayer itself, and true prayer is just pleading with the Most High, spreading our case before Him and pressing our suit with all the arguments we can muster.
You need not reach for fine words nor borrow another man's devotion, but go straight to God and say, O Lord, You know what I need. Imitate Jacob in his humility of spirit. Come not with a claim, but as a servant who has no merit of his own, and plead the promises which God has given in His Word. Pray as David prayed, Remember the Word unto Your servant. That is the real meaning of it, to ask God to remember His Word by fulfilling it. Get the promise and then offer the prayer, and the prayer will be answered as sure as God is God. Ungodly men ask if prayer can change the will of God, but we reply that our prayer is the shadow of a coming blessing, a reminding of our heavenly Father of what He has already purposed to give through Jesus Christ our Lord, for there is salvation in no other.
Do not restrain prayer before God. When the case seems desperate and ordinary strength will not avail, our Saviour has taught us that this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. There must be an unusual faith, and to get this there must be an unusual degree of prayer. Some will get to the boiling point without fasting, others cannot, and it is well at times to set apart a season for earnest supplication until the soul is quickened. Cry with the Psalmist, Quicken me in Your way, for such a prayer is an index of life and can only come from those in whom the quickening Spirit already dwells. Let it be your prayer in private, in the family, and in the assembly, that you may be quickened in all forms of worship.
Persevere though the answer tarry. Jacob prayed and his prayer was answered, but it was not answered in the way he expected it would be. Prayer, mighty prayer, will yet prevail if it has but time. Spurn the suggestion to forsake the closet, and still cry both in the daytime and at night, for the Lord will still hear. Intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, for the prayer of Christ Himself is of this character, and there is not a single grain of His incense that is for Himself. He ever liveth to keep His people from evil, and your feeble intercession, when it pleads the blood of Christ, shall not miscarry but shall prevail and bring down blessings from on high.
Let us pray together now. O Lord, remember Your Word unto Your servant. You have said, Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will deliver thee. We spread this case before You, whatever burden lies behind this cry, and we ask You to intervene according to Your holy will and not according to our fancy. Quicken this soul in Your way, turn the heart fully to trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and conform the life to Your perfect law wherein marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and all else is kept within its bounds. Forgive sin, heal what is wounded, restrain what is evil, and establish what is according to Your truth. Let Your grace be manifest, that all may say there is a majesty in Your love when even a hard and troubled case melts before it. Grant faith to act as You bid, and keep this one from evil, for Christ's sake. Amen.
