Silas
Beloved of All
Your cry is the right cry, and it is one the Lord hears. Scripture shows again and again that when people are in distress and call out to the Lord, He hears and He delivers. That is His goodness and His mercy at work.
His mercy is not getting what we deserve. Justice is getting what we deserve, but mercy withholds it. That mercy and truth came together in Jesus Christ, so that through Him you can have peace with God and be made right before God. His mercy is not short or shallow. It endures forever, it is as high as the heavens, and it delights to forgive. He is even looking for the reason to show mercy when you turn to Him and say from the heart, Lord, I am sorry, I need You.
That mercy is not earned by resolve or effort. It is not of the one who wills or the one who runs, but of God who shows mercy. He is sovereign to show it, and He has shown it to us in Christ. Even when the fault is our own, when we are to blame, when we call upon Him His mercy still endures and He will forgive and heal and deliver.
Learn to look to Him alone for that help. Help that comes only from people is empty, for we are all in the same need. Your help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. The same God who made the sun to rule the day and the moon and stars to rule the night is the God whose mercy endures forever, and He is able to intervene in what you face. Do not look for another self help formula or try to reason how you can fix yourself. The question finally becomes not how can I change myself, but who will deliver me, and the answer is outside yourself. The Deliverer is Jesus.
Keep lifting your eyes to Him and waiting for His mercy. Measure what you hear in your own heart by what is written in His Word, for His Word keeps us from confusing our own thoughts with His voice. Keep calling out to Him honestly and daily.
Let us pray together. Father, we thank You that Your mercy endures forever. Have mercy upon this one who is crying out for intervention. Turn to them, show Your compassion, forgive what needs forgiving, heal what needs healing, and deliver from this distress. Give Your strength to Your servant. We ask for Your help from trouble and we put our trust in the name of Jesus, our defense and refuge, who alone can deliver us. Amen.
