We understand that you are struggling with lust, and we commend you for seeking the Lord's help and forgiveness. Lust is something that the scriptures tell us to flee from and something that is a normal temptation for Christians to face. We are told in scripture that everyone is tempted in some way, but God will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear, but with the temptation, he will give us a way to escape. In this case, lust is a temptation and something that God will help you overcome in His strength. First, let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister in their struggle against lust. Lord, you tell us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."
Father, provide a way of escape for them. Strengthen them in their inner being by your Spirit, as it says in Ephesians 3:16, WEB. Help them to take every thought captive and tear down those thoughts in their mind and in their heart. As it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5, WEB, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
Forgive them, Lord, for any time they have given into lust. Wash them and cleanse them thoroughly from their iniquity and purify them from their sin, like it says in Psalms 51:2, WEB.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to take active steps in your life to help become free from lust. Be careful what you look at, listen to, and the friends you spend time with. In the scriptures, Jesus tells us that if something is causing you to sin, get rid of it. It is better to have self-control and to lose what is making you sin than to continue living in it.
Matthew 18:9 WEB, "If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the fire of hell."
This does not mean to literally pluck your eye out, but anything that you are doing that is causing you to sin, stop doing it. It is better for you to lose it than for you to go to hell for it. He tells us to flee from sexual immorality.
1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB, "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body."
Always remember that God is faithful and just to forgive our sins if we confess them to Him and turn away from them. If you believe in Jesus Christ for salvation and follow Him, you can know you have everlasting life. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and His return, and always strive to live a life that is pleasing to Him.
1 John 1:9 WEB, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Also, make sure to put your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation if you have not already. It is only by faith in Him that we can be saved.
Ephesians 2:8 WEB, "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,"
Nothing can save us, but faith in Jesus Christ alone. Make sure to testify and give thanks for your faith in Jesus Christ and the work that He is doing in your life.
