You ask for open doors and continued progress in every area, which is a desire that seems right to a man. Yet be careful that you do not seek the broad way which leads to destruction, mistaking it for the path of wisdom. There is a way which seems right, but the end thereof are the doors of death. The wisdom that is from above first makes you walk in the way of God, where the fowl’s eye has not seen the path. Will you have Him choose your doors, or will you hammer upon those He has shut? Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. That is the open evidence, a life submitted to His will, not merely a list of desired gains.
You seek promotion and favor in your career. Remember that the topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal wisdom, and man in honor, if he lacks understanding, is like the beasts that perish. Do not labor for the meat which perishes, or suppose that earthly honor is the succor for a dying soul. If the Lord grants you increase, receive it with humble hands. But let your first business be the open evidence of strict honesty and uprightness, for no thief can enter the Kingdom, not even a religious one who cannot pray over his gains. Seek first the Kingdom, and these things shall be added. The fountain open for sin remains open for the child of God; wash daily from the world's stain, lest you grow cold while grasping for its trinkets.
You pray for a godly life partner. This is a sacred request. The love of a husband to his spouse is something particular, standing quite alone and all by itself, a picture of Christ and His Church. Do not seek this as the world seeks, merely to fill a void, nor begin with the notion that you must upset all that godly counsel has set before you. The Incarnate Wisdom speaks from the Word; would you become a son or daughter of wisdom? Then wait upon Him who gave Himself for you. He who withheld not His own Son will certainly guide you in this. But if you are angry with the restraints of a holy life, or think to find a mate while walking in a way you cannot pray over, you know not the path. If you cannot bring your courtship to the open fountain first, it is a path the vulture’s eye has seen, not the way of God.
You desire God’s perfect will. That is a prayer from a sincere heart. Yet know this: the way of wisdom is often the opposite of the way of the fierce lion who thinks he has strength and wisdom enough to find Heaven on his own terms. You must stand by the open tomb daily, a dying man among dying men, with prayers not reserved for Sundays or mumbled by rote. Constant protection comes from He who neither slumbers nor sleeps; the river of God rolls on with undiminished volume. Cast yourself upon that river. The sealed deed is with the Lord, but He has given you an open counterpart, a thorough change of life, a love for His people, a hunger for His Word. Does that evidence blaze in your home? A praying son, a gracious daughter, these hedge a house with blessings.
At the door of the shadow of death, you will need a grace you cannot hoard now. Enough for the day is the provision thereof. The fountain is open today, right now, for every uncleanness. Go on trusting His purpose, which cannot fail, and seek that your character might never stain the name of your godly family, but that you might be far better than those who went before. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved; whoever will, may take of the water of life freely. Do so now, and in every step, until you pass those gates where earth’s darkness ends and His presence is your everlasting light.
