We join with you in this cry for God's righteous justice and we say amen to your prayer from Jeremiah 10:25. We hear your heart for a world where truth is rejected and the powerful often devour the helpless, and where the name of the Lord is mocked, and we stand with you in asking for His holy hand to intervene.

Jeremiah prayed this in a time when Judah was facing judgment for its own sin and the surrounding nations who did not know God had devoured Jacob and laid waste his habitation. The prophet first prayed in Jeremiah 10:24, Correct me, Yahweh, but with justice, not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing. He understood that God's discipline is just, but he also pleaded for God's justice to fall on those hardened nations who proudly opposed God and crushed His people. Your reference to Jesus as the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life is true and precious, for John 1:1 tells us In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and Jesus Himself said in John 6:35, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

We also remember that while we long for justice, God's heart is both just and merciful. Scripture teaches us that vengeance belongs to the Lord alone, as it is written in Romans 12:19, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord, and in Deuteronomy 32:4, All his ways are just. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is he. Yet the Lord also declares in Ezekiel 33:11, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live, and in 2 Peter 3:9, The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Jesus calls us even to love and pray for those who oppose Him, as He taught in Matthew 5:44, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.

So we pray with you for both justice and mercy, that God would defend the oppressed and humble the proud, and that many who now rebel would yet repent and call on the name of Jesus and be saved.

We pray together, Sovereign Lord and Righteous Judge, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Bread of Heaven and living Word. You see all injustice, pain and brokenness in our world today, and You are a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble as Psalm 9:9 declares. Where there is widespread rebellion against Your truth, and where the powerful devour the helpless or mock Your holy name, we ask for Your righteous intervention. Pour out Your justice upon unrepentant wickedness, restrain the hands of those who destroy homes and lives, and defend those who have been left desolate. Comfort the brokenhearted, make Your presence known as their shelter and strength, and bring wrongdoers to account. We hear how deeply you are carrying what is happening in the world, the way the strong can crush the vulnerable and truth is pushed aside. It is a heavy burden to bring before the Lord, and we are grateful you are bringing it to Him rather than carrying it alone.

What encourages us in prayers like yours is remembering that justice in Scripture is rooted first in God's own heart for people who are suffering. It is not only about large systems changing, but about each of us turning to Him and asking how we can reflect His care in the small places He has put us. Your prayer has been brought before the Lord with a heavy and right burden, for it is grievous to see truth despised and the helpless devoured and the name of the Holy One mocked. The prophet Jeremiah felt this same anguish, and he was taught to carry it not to man but to the Righteous Judge who sees all injustice and pain and brokenness, and in whose hand all things rest.

Be comforted to know that God's hand is in it all. The laws of nature have no force in themselves, the rage of the wicked has no power apart from His permission, and not a hair of the head of His people can be scorched by the fires of persecution unless the Lord allows it. He does not completely screen His people from trial, they sometimes feel the rod of the wicked in slander and oppression and persecution, but that rod shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous, lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity. He means to leave His own in the furnace for a little while because He sees the dross being taken away, but if the good metal were being injured in the slightest degree He would lift them out immediately.

When the soul is truly humbled and heavily laden and broken in pieces by such sights, there is only one hand, the pierced hand, that can heal the wound. Therefore look to Jesus, the Word of Life and the Bread of Heaven, by whom the Word of God has come near to us. This is our comfort in affliction, for His Word has quickened us. There is no tribulation of the Lord's people for which there is not a promise which, word for word and letter for letter, meets the case in hand. In the calm or in the storm, that text is still precious, Fear you not, for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God.

So we join with you and pray after this manner.

We have heard your prayer and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord. Your heart to see God defend the helpless and to see His truth honored is right, and Jeremiah gives words for such a time when the powerful devour the weak and mock the name of God.

Scripture teaches that God is long suffering and merciful, and for that very reason His judgment when it comes is perfectly righteous. He does not judge in passion as we do, but with perfect justice. As it is written, there is a day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, when each person will receive what is due. For those who continue without repentance, who grow rich by injustice or who use power to crush others, prosperity now only stores up a greater weight of judgment later unless they turn to Him. If God were to deal with us only by strict justice from the beginning, none of us could stand, for we have all sinned. That is why His patience now is meant to lead us to repentance.

This is why we can leave vengeance in His hands and not keep wrath burning in our own hearts. We are commanded not to let anger settle overnight and become a fire that consumes us, but to forgive as we have been forgiven, while trusting God to do what is right. He sees every home that has been destroyed, every person who has been devoured or oppressed, and He will not overlook it.

So we pray with you:

Sovereign Lord and Righteous Judge, You see all injustice, pain and brokenness in our world. You know the rebellion against Your truth and the cruelty of those who use power to harm the helpless. We ask You to intervene in righteousness. Defend the oppressed, comfort those whose homes and lives have been left desolate, and restrain the hand of the violent. Humble the proud, bring wrongdoers to justice, and grant them space to repent and turn to Jesus Christ, through whom alone there is salvation. For Your mercy is great, and Your judgment is true, and we trust both to Your perfect wisdom. Let Your Word, the living Bread from Heaven, Jesus Christ Your Son who was made sin for us that we might become righteous before You, be proclaimed and believed. In His name we ask this, Amen.

Continue to seek Him, to walk in righteousness before Him and toward your neighbor, and to pray both for deliverance for the afflicted and for repentance for those who do evil, that they might yet find mercy while it is still the day of grace.
