Ezekiel 32:24:
"Elam is there, with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword. All who had spread terror in the land of the living went down uncircumcised to the earth below. They bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

A Prayer Based on Ezekiel 23:24: Our prayer:
Heavenly Father,
mighty and eternal God, we come before You today in humility and awe. Your Word in Ezekiel 32:24 reminds us of the temporary nature of earthly power, pride, and the kingdoms of this world. We read of those who once struck terror in the land of the living, yet ultimately descended into the silence of the Pit.
LORD God, search our heart. Cleanse us of any hidden pride, arrogance, or desire to build our own strength apart from You. Do not let us walk in the ways of those who trusted in their own might and bore the shame of their downfall.
Instead, fill us with Your Holy Spirit. Give us a spirit of gentleness, righteousness, and lasting peace. Help us to live a life that honors You, anchored not in earthly status, but in Your eternal grace and salvation.
In Jesus' name, we pray.
Amen.

We join you in this humble and reverent prayer and we thank you for sharing this burden for purity of heart before the Lord. Your cry for God to search the heart and cleanse hidden pride and the desire to build strength apart from Him is deeply biblical and pleasing to Him, and we stand with you in it.

We are reminded by Ezekiel 32:24 that earthly power and terror are fleeting. Elam was once a mighty people who spread terror in the land of the living, yet the Lord shows that all such pride ends in the grave and bears shame in the pit. This is a sober picture of what happens when nations and individuals trust in their own might rather than in God. As it is written, Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 and God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6. The Lord does not overlook arrogance, but He lifts up the humble who depend on Him. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:6

Your prayer echoes David's prayer, Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24. We love that you ask the Lord Himself to search you, for only He can rightly try the heart, as He says, I, Yahweh, search the heart, I try the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah 17:10. And we rejoice that you turn from self reliance to Jesus, who is indeed the Bread of Heaven and the living Word of God. Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 and His name is called The Word of God. Revelation 19:13. Apart from Him we can do nothing, but in Him we have eternal grace and salvation, not earthly status.

So we pray together with you.

Heavenly Father, mighty and eternal God, we come before You in humility and awe in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for Your Word that warns us of the end of pride and earthly kingdoms. Search our hearts, Lord, and know our thoughts. Cleanse us of any hidden pride, arrogance, or desire to build our own strength apart from You. Forgive us for the times we have trusted in ourselves. Wash us and make us clean through the blood of Jesus. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and give us a spirit of gentleness, righteousness and lasting peace. Help us to walk humbly before You, anchored not in earthly power but in Your eternal grace and salvation. Lead us in the everlasting way and help us to live a life that honors You and bears fruit for Your glory. Humble us in Your sight that You may exalt us in due time according to Your will. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Bread of Heaven and Word of Life, amen.

We were grateful to read your prayer asking God to search your hearts and cleanse any hidden pride or desire to build strength apart from Him. It takes real humility to pray that way, to want to be anchored in His grace rather than in your own standing.

Humility is not about thinking poorly of yourselves or trying to debase yourselves. It is more simply living aware of your dependence on God for all you are and have, and choosing to put His purposes and the good of others before your own. Pride quietly does the opposite, it overestimates ourselves and makes it hard to hear correction or to lean on Him. Your desire for gentleness, righteousness and lasting peace reflects that dependence.

Turning from pride is also more than feeling sorry in the moment. It is a change of mind that begins to change direction, and that kind of growth happens gradually, almost imperceptibly, with highs and lows over a lifetime. What matters is staying with the Lord in the process.

One practice that helps many is to keep a brief, quiet time each day to invite the Holy Spirit to show you one place where you are leaning on your own strength, and to bring it honestly to God in prayer. Walking with a trusted believer who can pray with you and encourage you makes that steadier as well.

Father, we ask You to keep doing this good work in these hearts. Search them, cleanse what needs cleansing, and fill them more and more with Your Spirit. Form in them gentleness and holiness that reflects Jesus, and give them peace as they rest in Your grace and salvation. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Your prayer is one which the Lord delights to hear, for you ask Him to do what He loves to do, to search the heart and to cleanse it from pride. We join with you in this petition, and we thank God that He has inclined your heart to pray thus.

The Word you have brought before us in Ezekiel is solemn. Those who spread terror in the land of the living, who trusted in their own might and exalted themselves, went down at last uncircumcised to the earth below and bore their shame with those who go down to the pit. So it ever is with pride. When most successful it stands in slippery places. It builds its house upon the pinnacle of the temple, and verily it seems but natural that if pride will go up, pride must come down, and be dashed to pieces. Wherever God sees pride lifting itself on high, He resolves to level it in the dust, for He will not give His glory to another.

You have prayed well to be cleansed of hidden pride and of the desire to build your own strength apart from God. Pride is a sin with a thousand lives. You may labor against vainglory till you conceive that you are humble, and the fond conceit of your humility will prove to be pride in full bloom. The imitation of humility is the nearest thing in the world to pride. Seek of God, therefore, the gift of true humility, genuine and wrought by His Spirit.

True humility is to feel that we have no power of ourselves, but that it all cometh from God, to lean upon our Beloved, to believe that He has trodden the winepress alone, to lie upon His bosom and to exalt Him and think less than nothing of ourselves. This is the grace that hath many promises given to it in Scripture. God resists the proud, but He gives grace unto the humble. Humility is the grace that attracts more grace. As money makes money, so humility increases humility and with it every other spiritual gift. If you would have much grace, have much humility.

We pray with you that the Lord Jesus, who is the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life, the very Word of God made flesh, may keep you anchored not in earthly status but in His eternal grace and salvation. There is no salvation but through Him alone, and no lasting peace but by His Spirit. May He give you a spirit of gentleness and righteousness, and keep you low at His feet, that honor may come after humility in His own good time.

O Lord, search us and try us, and see if there be any wicked way of pride in us. Strip us of self conceit and self reliance. Empty us that Thou mayest fill us. Teach us to serve Thee with all humility, before Thee and in Thy service, and to walk humbly with our God all our days. For Jesus sake, let Thy grace reign in us, and let Christ have all the glory. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We join with you in this prayer for God to search the heart and cleanse it from pride, and we thank you for bringing it with such humility.

Your reflection on Ezekiel 32:24 is needful and true. The prophet shows us the end of those who spread terror and trusted in their own strength, that all earthly power is temporary and falls into silence and shame apart from God. As you prayed, it is right to ask that we not walk in that same way, trusting in ourselves, but that we be anchored in the grace and salvation that comes through Jesus Christ alone, who is the Bread of Heaven and the living Word of God.

The Scriptures and the teaching of the church remind us that pride is the fountain of all wickedness, while humility is the mother of virtues and the groundwork of all that is good. Christ himself said blessed are the poor in spirit. True humility is not only speaking lowly words about ourselves, but serving the Lord with all humility of mind in word and in action, toward all people, and being willing to be corrected and to bear reproach without anger. It is the opposite of trusting in uncertain things like riches or status or our own strength, which so easily lift the heart into arrogance.

So we pray with you:

Heavenly Father, you see all hearts and you resist the proud but give grace to the humble. Search us and try us, and cleanse us from hidden pride and arrogance and every desire to build our lives apart from you. Forgive us where we have trusted in our own might. Fill us with your Holy Spirit, and form in us gentleness, righteousness and lasting peace. Make us poor in spirit, that we may live in a way that honors you, not for earthly honor but for your eternal glory. Keep us close to Jesus, your Son, in whom alone is salvation, and teach us to walk humbly before you all our days. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
