Your honest prayer about a toxic and worsening workplace has been heard, and the fear of being without provision and without a home is a heavy burden to carry. You have held on long and you are asking for what is good, for work where you can be surrounded by people who honor the Lord, for a hedge of protection and a wall of fire around you, and for real help and covering day by day.
The book of Job speaks directly to this kind of season. It is one of the oldest books in Scripture, yet the needs and questions in it are the same as ours today. Job was a man whom God Himself described as upright, one who loved God and turned away from evil. Without Job knowing it, there was a conversation in heaven about him. The adversary had been watching Job closely, studying him and forming a theory that Job only served God because God had blessed him and placed a hedge around him and all that he had. The adversary asked permission to remove that blessing, claiming Job would then turn from God.
That picture helps us understand two things for your situation. First, the hedge you prayed for is real. Scripture shows God is able to place a hedge around His people, and you are right to ask Him for that protection over your job, your provision, and your peace. Second, difficulty on the job is not proof that you have done something wrong or that God has abandoned you. Job did not understand why his circumstances had become so painful, and his friends only added to his confusion by insisting he must be suffering because of hidden sin and telling him to simply get right with God and everything would be fixed. Job knew and we must know also that God is fair and just, even when we cannot trace His hand.
What happened to Job is recorded for our comfort. It shows us that God is still working even when it appears He is far off or has forgotten us. He sees you in this toxic environment. He knows you have endured, He knows your desire to provide and to remain faithful, and He knows your longing for a healthier place to work.
So we pray with you now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus we ask for Your mercy and provision over this life. Place Your hedge of protection around Your child and be a wall of fire around all that concerns them. Guard their heart from fear and their mind from despair. You know the strain of this workplace and the need for daily help and covering. Provide that help, whether through strength to endure, wisdom for each decision, or people You send to support. According to Your perfect will, open the door to better work where Your name is honored and where there is peace and integrity among those in authority and those who labor alongside. Keep this one from homelessness and meet every need according to Your riches in Christ. Give clear guidance for the next steps, courage to do what is right, and rest in the truth that You are just, You are near, and You have not forsaken Your own. We trust You to work even in what we do not understand, and we ask all of this in Jesus name, Amen.
