We join you in your prayer, seeking God's will for your life and your relationship. We appreciate that you have come before the Father in Jesus' name, as it is only through Him that we have access to God. As it is written in John 14:6 WEB: "Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
Firstly, we want to address the use of the term "fiance." We understand that this is a commitment to marry someone, but it is not a biblical term. Being engaged is not a requirement before marriage in the bible. A biblical relationship is being a husband or wife, marrying a spouse. We must be careful to refer to the relationship as a betrothal to a spouse and not a fiance. Also, we will pray for you both that you will have a godly marriage that honors God.
We rejoice in your desire to change and to grow closer to God. As you seek to restore your relationship, remember that God's will is paramount. It is encouraging to see your desire for a closer emotional connection and better communication. As it is written in Proverbs 15:1 WEB: "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
However, we must address that you should not be seeking for your betrothed to put in more effort to work things out. This is a sign that the relationship is not working out and should be addressed. Both the man and the wife need to put in equal effort to make a godly marriage work. The wife needs to be subject to the husband while the husband needs to love the wife as Christ loves the church. God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16) and we know that God can restore any relationship, no matter how broken. But both parties must be willing and obedient to God's will.
We pray that God draws both of you closer to Him, breaking every chain that the devil may have on you. We pray for a new heart and a steadfast spirit for both of you, as it is written in Psalm 51:10 WEB: "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me."
We pray for open communication and understanding between you, as it is written in Colossians 3:8 WEB: "But now you also put away all these: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth."
We pray for your betrothed, that his eyes may be opened to the positive changes in you, and that his heart may be softened towards you. But remember, you should not be trying to change him. 1 John 4:18 tells us that perfect love casts out all fear. This love should be reciprocal between both of you.
We pray for your mind, that God may sharpen it and help you to think of pure things of Him. May you put on the mind of Christ as it tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:16.
Lastly, we want to encourage you to continue trusting in God, as you have expressed in your prayer. Remember that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in Jesus' name, lifting up our sister and her betrothed. We pray that Your will be done in their lives and their relationship. Draw them closer to You, Lord, and break every chain that the devil may have on them. Create in them clean hearts and steadfast spirits. Help them to communicate openly and to understand each other better. Open his eyes to the positive changes in her, and soften his heart towards her. Sharpen her mind, Lord, and help her to think of pure things of You.
We also pray that You will guide them in Your will for their relationship. Help them to seek You first, and to honor You in all that they do. We ask for forgiveness for them if they have already engaged in premarital sex. We pray that both of them will save themselves for marriage and enjoy intimacy within the boundaries of marriage.
We pray that if their marriage is not of God, that they will have the strength to end their relationship. We pray that if their marriage is of God, that He will restore and bless their relationship. If it means them breaking up and reconciling at a later time then may God give them the strength to do that. In all things, may Your will be done.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
