We thank you for sharing your heart with us and for your love for Jesus, which is so evident in your words. We rejoice with you that you feel the passion and blessing of prayer, and we are honored to stand with you before the throne of grace. We hear the ache in your heart for your adult daughter, the longing for closeness and truth, and the pain of feeling deceived by one you love so deeply. We also hear your wisdom and humility in asking for patience and for God's protection and will to be done, even if that means waiting.
We understand how deeply a mother or father's heart longs for an unbreakable bond with a child, even when that child is grown. Your desire to guide and teach her is a beautiful reflection of God's heart for us. Yet when our children become adults, our role shifts from directing to counseling, from holding their hand to praying for their steps. The Lord reminds us, Fathers, don't provoke your children to anger, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord Ephesians 6:4 and again, Fathers, don't provoke your children, so that they won't be discouraged Colossians 3:21. This teaches us to lead with gentleness and patience, not pressure, so that our love does not feel like harm to them even when our intentions are pure.
It is painful when truth feels hidden. Scripture calls us to speak truth with love, Putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor Ephesians 4:25 and to let love be our guide, for Love is patient and is kind, love doesn't envy, love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil, doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Your daughter, as an adult, is now responsible before God for her own choices, and sometimes distance or deception comes from her own struggles, fears, or desire for independence, not from a lack of love for you. We are called to respond not with bitterness but with grace, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. Love covers a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8.
We also hear your prayer asking if God is protecting you from her, to continue that protection. We affirm that God is our protector and that we can trust Him with both our hearts and our relationships. At the same time we are called to pursue peace as far as it depends on us, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18 and to use gentle words that open doors, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger Proverbs 15:1. Waiting patiently, listening more than speaking, and praying more than pressing, often does more to rebuild trust than any counsel we could give. Be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19.
We join our faith with yours now and pray together.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and our access to Your throne. We lift up this dear parent and this beloved adult daughter to You. Lord, You know the depth of this love and the pain of this distance. We ask You to pour out Your healing and Your truth upon this relationship. Reveal what needs to be revealed in Your perfect timing, and guard both hearts from hurt and deception. Soften the daughter's heart to hear and to trust the love that longs to guide her, and soften the parent's heart to wait with patience, grace, and unconditional love. Teach us both to speak truth in love Ephesians 4:15 and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Restore the bond between them, Lord, make it strong in You, rooted in respect and honesty and enduring love. Help this parent to trust You with what she cannot control, to cast all anxiety on You because You care for us 1 Peter 5:7, and to remember to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. Let Your will be done in their lives, and let their everlasting love for one another be a reflection of Your everlasting love for us. We ask this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray daily for your daughter by name, to bless her even when you feel hurt, and to keep the door open without demanding she walk through it on your timetable. Continue to show her by your life and your gentle words that you are safe, steady, and here to love her, not to control her. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we don't give up Galatians 6:9. God who is our perfect Father understands the longing for His children to draw near, and He will give you wisdom as you ask Him. Keep seeking Him, keep loving her with the patient love Christ has shown us, and trust that He is working even in the waiting.
