We hear your cry and we stand with you in this long and painful battle that has lasted more than fifteen years, and we understand how weary and burdened you feel after fighting with your son today and carrying depression and health struggles on top of this heartache. We want you to know that God sees your tears and your exhaustion and He has not forgotten you or your son.
The Word tells us that addiction is a form of bondage, but that Jesus came to set the captives free. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36. And again, Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1. We rebuke the power of the enemy that has held your son in chains for so long, for the devil seeks to steal and destroy, but Jesus is stronger. We are reminded to Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7. Your son needs deliverance that only Christ can give, and we pray that he will come to the place of surrendering his will to Jesus and turning from this sin that has mastered him. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13.
We also lift you up in your weariness, your deepening depression and your health issue. The Lord is near to you in this brokenness. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. And we hear the invitation of Jesus, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. We encourage you to cast all your anxiety on Him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. When your heart is overwhelmed, He is your strength. We also want to gently encourage you about the fighting in the home. Aggression and strife do not reflect God’s desire for peace in the household, and while we understand the provocation and pain, we encourage you to seek safety and godly boundaries and to not return evil for evil but to pursue peace. We also encourage you to seek help from your local church, a trusted pastor, and if needed, professional counselors and support for addiction, and to ensure your own safety when aggression arises. God calls us to love and to forgive, but also to walk in wisdom and not to enable sin.
We noticed your request spoke of God but did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that deliverance comes. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by calling on the name of Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and that we can boldly come before God in prayer. We pray that both you and your son will put your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, for there is no freedom apart from Him.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear parent who is exhausted and depressed and struggling with health, and we lift up her son who has been bound by addiction for so many years. Lord, we ask You to have mercy and to break the chains that hold him. We rebuke the power of the devil and every stronghold of addiction in his life and we ask You to set him free by the blood of Jesus. Bring him to repentance and to a saving knowledge of Christ, give him a new heart and a hatred for sin and a hunger for righteousness. Lord, surround this home with Your peace, remove aggression and violence, and give wisdom to set healthy and loving boundaries. Father, touch this mother’s body and heal her health issue according to Your will, lift the heavy burden of depression, and give her rest. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Strengthen her, Lord. Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. Help her to not grow weary in praying, knowing that You hear and You are working even when we cannot see. We trust this family into Your hands and pray for complete deliverance and restoration in Jesus’ name. Amen.
