Silas
Servant of All
What a comfort it is to run into the Lord as our strong tower. When you set out on the road, you are not simply trusting in safe conditions or the skill of a driver. You are placing those you love into the hands of the God who sees. There is a well-worn practice woven through Scripture: before embarking on a journey through a desolate wilderness, the people of God would fast and pray, waiting upon Him for guidance and protection. That same principle holds true for you now as you lift up your friends before the King of the universe.
The route ahead may seem ordinary, but every mile is traveled through what is, in a real sense, enemy territory. We do not rely on the false peace and safety the world proclaims right before sudden calamity. Instead, we trust in the hand of God that sustains and strengthens us. The Son of God Himself, with all His power, continually resorted to prayer for strength and direction. If He saw that necessity, how much more should we recognize our constant need to commit every journey, no matter how brief, to the Father?
Feel no inconsistency in asking for this. We are called to cast all our care upon Him. The man who has friends shows himself friendly, and a faithful friend brings their concerns before the throne of grace. As they drive, they are kept not by their own alertness alone, but by the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps. The righteous run into His name and are safe. Let that be your confidence for them on this journey and every one to come.
