Landlord and uneasy access to my room

They have a metal gate before I get to my room, for some reason the metal got crooked and it doesn’t shut all the way, they had The Who two month to fix it if they wanted to or if it bothered them so much, but now they are keeping it shut when I am back to my room, they could have fixed it when I wasn’t here those two months I was away, but now they are doing it now and it makes it difficult to get to my room, and I feel like the landlord is searching through my stuff when I am away, please pray it stops, in Jesus name I pray amen

We join you in prayer about this difficult and uneasy situation with your landlord and the access to your room, and we thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for it is through Him we have confidence to approach the Father.

We understand how distressing it is to feel that your private space and your peace are being disrupted, especially when a simple repair was left undone while you were away for two months and now the gate is being kept shut in a way that makes it hard for you to come and go, and to carry the added burden of wondering if your belongings are being looked through when you are not there.

We take comfort in knowing that God sees what is done in private and that He is our protector. For nothing is hidden, that will not be revealed, nor anything secret, that will not be known and come to light. Luke 8:17 And we rest in His promise that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forevermore. Psalm 121:7-8

We also hear the anxiety this has caused you, and we want to encourage you to bring that uneasiness fully to the Lord while also taking wise and peaceful steps. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 We encourage you, as much as it depends on you, to pursue peace and clear communication. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18 and Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Matthew 5:9

We would gently encourage you to address this directly and calmly with your landlord, perhaps in writing so there is a clear record, kindly asking that the crooked metal gate be repaired so you have safe and reasonable access to your room as you should. If you continue to feel your privacy is not being respected, we encourage you to keep a simple record of what you notice, to keep valuable items secured, and to learn what reasonable tenant protections exist where you live, all while maintaining a respectful and gracious tone. We also encourage you not to settle into suspicion as settled truth without clear evidence, but to guard your heart from bitterness while still wisely protecting what God has entrusted to you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this need to You. Lord, You see the difficulty with this gate and the hardship it creates in getting to and from this room. We ask that You touch the heart of the landlord, and turn it toward fairness and kindness, for The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires. Proverbs 21:1 We pray that this repair would be made promptly and properly, that access would be restored and that any hindrance or friction would be removed. Lord, we ask for Your protection over this room and over all belongings within it, and for peace to replace uneasiness. Guard this dear one from anxiety and let Your peace rule in their heart. Convict where privacy has not been honored and bring all that is done in secret into the light, and let honesty and respect mark this landlord relationship going forward. Help our dear one to speak with grace and truth, to be wise and gentle, and to trust You as their ultimate refuge. We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus, amen.

We hear how unsettling this has been for you, coming back after two months away to find it harder to get to your own room and carrying the worry that someone may have gone through your things. It makes sense you would feel on edge in your own space.

Having a clear sense of where your space begins and ends is important. A boundary is like a property line, it helps you know what you are responsible for and what you need to protect in order to live with peace and dignity. When that line feels unclear or not respected, it is hard to rest.

A couple of simple steps may help you feel steadier while we pray for this to be resolved. Consider keeping a brief written note of dates and what you notice about the gate and access, and photos if you can. It can also help to put a courteous request in writing to your landlord, asking when the gate will be repaired and clarifying how and when access to your room will happen. Keeping any important documents or valuables simply secured and reviewing what your lease says about entry and notice can give you more clarity as well. If questions remain, a local tenant advice office can often explain options calmly.

Father, we bring this situation to You and ask for peace in this home. Please provide safety and privacy, wisdom for honest and respectful communication, and a timely repair of the gate. Give our friend rest and the assurance that You see and care for them. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your trial concerning your room and the gate which guards it has been heard, and we bring it before the Lord with you.

There is a true uneasiness when the place appointed for rest and privacy feels insecure, and when access to it is made difficult, and when you fear that what is yours in private is looked upon by other eyes. The Lord sees this, for there is no chamber so retired and no gate so narrow that His eye does not behold it. As it has been said, there is such a harmony between the feeling of Christians and the purposes of God that you and I can never tell where these two unite, and He is conscious of your presence even among the most ordinary troubles of daily life.

Bear this in mind, which may give you comfort, that the house in which we dwell in this life has God for its Landlord, and that we are only tenants. There is this clause in the lease, that the Landlord has at all times the right to enter and leave His own property. No gate can shut Him out, and no crooked metal can keep Him from coming near to help His people. While an earthly landlord may hold a key to an outer gate, the great Landlord holds the key to your whole house and to your heart, and He enters not to search through your things to harm you, but to dwell there for your good. I desire that you may offer the key of your house to that great Landlord and acknowledge that you live on sufferance as His tenant, for when He keeps the house, you may rest though earthly keepers fail.

We would also set before you the word, Set your house in order. This is man's duty with regard to the house of which he is the tenant. You do well to desire order and peace in your dwelling, and to seek honest dealing both with God and with man. Let us daily ask the Lord to keep us in a truthful spirit, admitting the truth both concerning ourselves and our Lord, feeling its power and desiring to be taught still more of it. Do not seek an unsafe comfort which would make you content to live in suspicion or bitterness, but speak according to truth. If it can be done with meekness, speak plainly and honestly with your landlord concerning the gate and the access to your room, stating the difficulty without accusation, and asking for a time when the repair may be made that does not hinder your coming and going. Keep a simple record of what is said and done, keep what is valuable in a secure manner, and seek to live peaceably as far as it depends upon you.

We pray that you may know also those breezes from the distant Celestial City which sometimes blow even upon Beulah's hill, that in the midst of this small affliction you may smell the spices of the Glory Land where Emmanuel is King, and find your heart kept in quietness.

Let us pray together.

O Lord, Thou great Landlord of all our dwellings, Thou seest this tenant in a house not his own, troubled by a gate that will not shut aright and by fear that privacy is broken. Look upon this need with mercy. Grant wisdom and integrity to the earthly landlord, that what is crooked may be made straight in due season and without burden to Thy child. Restrain every hand from what is not its own, and establish honesty and respect between tenant and landlord. Keep this room and all that is within it under Thine own watch, and let no fear take root where Thou dost keep guard. Give a truthful spirit and a calm tongue for needful speech, and a heart that pays its rent to Thee in trust and obedience, setting its house in order before Thee. Let peace rule where there is now uneasiness, and let it be seen that Thou art near in private as well as in public. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our true home and keeper.
