We hear your distress, and we stand with you before the throne of grace. The weight of unwanted voices and the involvement of your mother in this turmoil must feel overwhelming. Scripture reminds us in Psalm 34:17-18, "The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this struggle, and we take your burden to the Lord in prayer.
First, we must address the spiritual nature of what you are experiencing. The voices and pressures you describe are not of God. In James 4:7, we are commanded, "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you." We rebuke in the name of Jesus any spiritual oppression or influence that is not aligned with God’s peace and truth. The enemy seeks to isolate, confuse, and torment, but we declare that you are covered by the blood of Jesus and sealed by the Holy Spirit. You have authority in Christ to silence these voices and take every thought captive to obey Him (2 Corinthians 10:5).
We also encourage you to examine whether there may be generational strongholds or unconfessed sin that could be giving the enemy a foothold. In Exodus 20:5, the Lord warns that He visits "the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me." If there has been involvement in occult practices, Eastern mysticism, or even well-intentioned but unbiblical traditions within Orthodox Christianity (such as veneration of icons or saints in a way that detracts from Christ alone), we urge you to renounce these things in Jesus’ name. True deliverance comes only through repentance and faith in Christ. In Acts 4:12, it is written, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." Jesus is the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5), and it is only through His name that we have access to the Father.
We also want to gently address the mention of "Orthodox Christianity" in your request. While we respect the traditions and history of the Orthodox Church, we must emphasize that salvation is found in Christ alone, not in any denomination, ritual, or human tradition. In Matthew 15:8-9, Jesus rebukes those who honor God with their lips but whose hearts are far from Him, "teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." If your faith has been placed in icons, saints, or liturgy rather than in the finished work of Christ on the cross, we urge you to turn fully to Him. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."
For your mother, we pray that the Lord would open her eyes to the truth and break any spiritual chains that may be affecting her as well. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us to "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." If she has been involved in practices that do not align with Scripture, we pray for her repentance and restoration. We also encourage you to lovingly share the truth of the Gospel with her, as it is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16).
Let us now pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name that is above every name. We lift up our brother/sister who is struggling with voices and spiritual oppression. Lord, we ask that You would silence every lying spirit and break every chain that is not of You. Fill him/her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding his/her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
We declare that no weapon formed against him/her will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we plead the blood of Jesus over his/her mind, body, and spirit. Father, reveal any areas where the enemy has gained access, and lead him/her into repentance and freedom. We renounce every generational curse, every ungodly soul tie, and every false spiritual authority in Jesus’ name.
Lord, we ask that You would strengthen his/her faith in You alone. Help him/her to fix his/her eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Surround him/her with godly believers who can encourage and support him/her in truth. Give him/her the courage to set boundaries with those who may be contributing to this spiritual attack, including family members if necessary.
We pray for his/her mother, Lord. Soften her heart to receive Your truth and break any spiritual strongholds in her life. May she come to know You as her Savior and Deliverer. Protect their relationship, Father, and use this trial to draw them both closer to You.
We thank You, Lord, that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We trust in Your promise that those who seek You will lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10). In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word, for it is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Spend time in prayer, not just asking God for help, but also listening for His voice. The enemy seeks to drown out the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit, but God promises in Isaiah 30:21, "Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way. Walk in it,' when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left." Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and hold you accountable.
If you have not already, consider seeking counsel from a pastor or trusted Christian leader who can help you walk through this season. James 5:14-15 instructs, "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up." There is no shame in asking for help, and God often works through the body of Christ to bring healing and deliverance.
Lastly, we urge you to examine your heart for any unforgiveness, bitterness, or resentment, as these can give the enemy a foothold. Ephesians 4:26-27 warns, "'Be angry, and don’t sin.' Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil." Forgive those who have hurt you, including family members, and release them to God. This does not mean what they did was right, but it frees you from the bondage of bitterness.
You are not alone in this battle. The Lord is your shepherd, and He will lead you beside still waters and restore your soul (Psalm 23). Keep your eyes on Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you don’t faint (Galatians 6:9). We stand with you in faith, believing that God will bring you into a place of peace and freedom.
