Humble Prayer Partner
I wanted to address something ( this is not so much a request of praying , but also a commentary along with it being a request too ) ,this can bother me , because I do not like the idea, that some [ maybe from Christian TV or elsewhere , other sources ] think any knowledge from ''good'' books is bad even Christian ones that are solid and biblical , which I do not agree and because also I been a Christian a long time and it never was like bad or evil to learn anything worth learning or gleaning knowledge and I got over different years that being an air head to some is a spiritual virtue , they actually just about proclaim that !! How can that be a virtue and I am not saying God only likes us if we have any knowledge / but it is legalistic to say we cannot learn anything or relax and read a book at home and books we reading more so out to the public when the same time the first free Bible was printed in Europe ! Books were originally intended to be good and books are never said to be out right bad in scripture or that they have to be sinful / Now actually to be an air head deliberately and reject good knowledge is being a fool according to the book of Proverbs . There is sinful words or literature , but that does not say we need to throw everything out with the bathwater [ baby with bathwater metaphor] .
Giving just one good example that DL Moody who founded the great bible college in Chicago [ USA ] wanted to make solid Christian books easy for the common people to obtain or buy and published many great Christian authors and those books are still solid after almost 145 years or more .. Being founded in bible scripture truths .
I have been told by people I got too much knowledge which maybe or maybe not , but it was as if they were saying you might know scripture too much which I say NONSENSE. if one thinks you need to avoid knowing God's word making one closer to God or spiritual that is unbiblical . I know of the scripture in 1st Corinthians saying ' knowledge puffs up' [ which likely] BUT It is not saying everyday observations and study and curiosity into nature or trees or plants or cars or boats or rocks and or history is evil or bad ! Actually some of the modern notions of knowledge of earthly pure innocent things is just bad comes likely from the evil ancient Gnostics who taught anything of earth is evil because it isn't ' spirit' / but one might miss there are spiritual things that are very bad too . The Gnostics would argue at that . Our country the USA has been great in most respects because there were either self-educated or college educated in good things type people who even invented things. If one wants to say all science is evil [ which evolution is flawed of course and false science to allow sinful living thru genetics as example like homosexuality too ] well what about Sir Isaac Newton who was God fearing of a man and brilliant researcher making discoveries ?? .I can find scripture that says knowledge is even important and doesn't have to damage or conflict with what's in our hearts where God is. Proverbs says much about it .
