To Know Death & Fear of Death DESTROYED through Jesus' Death & Resurrection Heb 2:14-15 Know Your Great Power Raising Him Eph 1:17-19, Revelation 1:17-18, "When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I AM The First and The Last, 18 I AM The Living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I hold the keys of death and of Hades."

Father, we thank You that we love ONLY since You first loved us, 1 Jn 4:19, and the limited understanding we possess in this age, 1 Cor 13:9, Deut 29:29. Yet still we would abound still more, Phil 1:9, 1 Thes 3:12, 1 Thes 4:9-10, and ask a greater comprehension of the great love for the humans of the world that You would give Your Only Son, Jn 3:16, and the eternal life that Christ obeyed at head-shaking wonder to secure, Phil 2:1-11, and what You mean when The Holy Spirit says about Jesus, “who by His death, defeated him that had the power of death, that is the devil, and liberated those who through fear of death were enslaved to fear their entire lives," Heb 2:14-15. We ask You destroy fear of death among believers through grasping that You already did it for us -- let our hearts be flooded with light to know the hope to which we were called and the riches of the glory of Your inheritance, Eph 1:18… Give us wisdom and revelation to understand You, the hope of our calling, the riches of Your inheritance, and the exceeding greatness of Your power You exerted in Christ in the resurrection, Eph 1:17-19.

Open our minds to understand the Scriptures, Lk 24:45, even to understand the Scriptures and the Power of God, Mk 12:24. Help us know what Jesus is saying and John testified, “When I saw Jesus, I fell at His feet like a dead man. But He placed His right hand on me and said, ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, 18 The Living One -- I was dead, and behold, NOW I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades,’” Rev 1:17-18. We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of gratitude for the victory that has already been won through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Your request resonates deeply with the truth of Scripture, and we stand with you in declaring the power of Christ’s death and resurrection over the fear of death.

The Word of God is clear: "Since then the children have shared in flesh and blood, he also himself in the same way partook of the same, that through death he might bring to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might deliver all of them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage" (Hebrews 2:14-15 WEB). Fear of death has no place in the life of a believer because Christ has already destroyed its power. He holds the keys of death and Hades (Revelation 1:17-18), and in Him, we have the assurance of eternal life. When we grasp the magnitude of His resurrection power, our hearts are filled with hope, and fear is cast out.

We also lift up this prayer for deeper revelation of God’s love and power. "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might which he worked in Christ, when he raised him from the dead" (Ephesians 1:17-19 WEB). Oh, that we would know the height, depth, and breadth of His love and the power that raised Christ from the dead!

Father, we thank You for the love You demonstrated in sending Your Son to die for us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). We ask that You open our minds to understand the Scriptures more fully, that we may see Christ in all His glory and power. Help us to walk in the confidence of His victory, knowing that death has been swallowed up in triumph (1 Corinthians 15:54-55). Let the truth of Revelation 1:17-18 sink deep into our spirits: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, and the Living One. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore! I have the keys of Death and of Hades." May this truth dismantle every lie of the enemy and fill us with unshakable faith.

We also pray for those who may still be enslaved to the fear of death, whether they are believers struggling with doubt or those who have not yet come to know Christ. Lord, draw them to Yourself, that they may experience the freedom that comes only through faith in Jesus. For "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 WEB). Let them hear the good news and respond in repentance and faith, turning from sin and embracing the Savior who conquered death.

Finally, we rebuke every spirit of fear that seeks to torment God’s people. We declare that fear has no dominion over those who are in Christ Jesus. We stand on the promise that "God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). Let the church rise up in the authority of Jesus’ name, boldly proclaiming His victory over death and living as those who are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37).

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayer. We trust in Your faithfulness to complete the work You have begun in us. May our lives reflect the power of the resurrection, and may we walk in the fullness of the hope to which we have been called. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord, we pray. Amen.

Your request reflects a deep and beautiful hunger, not just to know about Christ’s victory over death, but to have that reality settle into the places where fear still speaks. What you’re asking for aligns with a simple truth: those with a deeper, more genuine connection to God report significantly less fear in the face of death than those whose faith stays superficial. That depth isn't something you can manufacture by trying harder. It often grows quietly as we, together with other believers, slow down and learn to stay present with Jesus in the passages you named, John 20, Hebrews 2, Revelation 1, and simply ask, "Jesus, show me Your living hand upon my life this week."

One concrete step that has helped many of us is to take John 20 or Revelation 1 and spend a week with it, not analyzing it, but stepping into the scene. Picture the risen Lord placing His right hand on John, saying, "Do not be afraid. I am alive forevermore." Then let that image return to you when fear stirs. Not as a mental exercise, but as a quiet conversation: Lord, right here, in this moment, You hold the keys. I trust You.

Father, we thank you that Jesus really did disarm the power of death. For our friend who hungers to know this in a deeper way, we ask that the Spirit of wisdom and revelation would make the living Christ more real than any fear. Ground their heart in the simple truth that the One who holds the keys also holds them. Quiet the inner battle with the peace that comes from knowing they are safe in Your grip. In Jesus’ name.

The very prayer you breathe is a work of the Spirit, a cry for light upon that which the natural eye cannot see and the carnal heart cannot abide. You plead to know the destruction of death's terror through the death of the Lord, and your request is already framed by Scripture, no empty speculation, but a longing to stand upon the Rock of accomplished fact. Let faith lay hold of this: the fear of death is not driven out by argument, but by a sight of Him who holds its keys.

Consider what manner of Man this is who speaks in Revelation. John, who had leaned upon His breast at supper, now sees Him in the blaze of deity and falls down as one lifeless. Yet that same pierced hand that was nailed to the tree is laid upon him, and the voice says, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, and the Living One. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore.” Mark well, the very hand that touches the trembling saint is the hand that wields the keys of Death and Hades. He has passed through the iron gate and shattered it from within. The grave could not hold Him, and because He lives, you shall live also. The key is for opening: it is His to open the gate of the separated spirits, to admit His saints one by one into eternal happiness. No man dies unless Jesus unlocks that mystic door, and when He opens it for you, it will be as the unlocking of a cage to set the prisoner free.

You ask to know the power that raised Him from the dead, and I answer that this is the very power that already quickens you. Paul's ambition was “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection.” This is no mere doctrine to be catalogued, but a living energy that rolls away stones of unbelief and breathes life into dead souls. As Christ rose, He left death's dominion shattered: “Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.” And as you have been united to Him by faith, you are raised into a life over which the second death holds no claim. The sting of death is sin, but Christ bore your sins in His own body on the tree. The sword of justice was sheathed in His heart instead of yours. When you go down to the grave, you go as one already accepted in the Beloved, not to an execution, but to a deliverance. The hour of departure becomes the hour of glorification, the bursting of the shell that the kernel may live.

But perhaps you still feel the chill of the valley's shadow. Then learn from Paul, who received the sentence of death in himself that he might not trust in himself. The death of self-trust is the birth of boldness. When you see no power in your own arm to swim, you cast yourself wholly upon the God who raises the dead. He who can reconstruct a body dissolved into dust can surely keep your soul in the passage through the river. He has not given you the keys, but He who holds them is your beloved Kinsman. Do not look into the grave with the torch of reason; look into the face of the risen Christ. The darkness is only the shadow of His wings.

Cling, then, to the objective truth. The death of Jesus is the death of death. Satan's power is broken; the strong man is spoiled. The Law's curse is removed; heaven's gate stands wide. Your fear is a remnant of the bondage from which Christ has already delivered you. Set your mind on things above, where Christ is seated, and let the foretaste of resurrection life swallow up your dread. The hour of your departure is in the keeping of Him who loves you with an everlasting love. He died your death that you might share His life. Is that not enough? Go your way, then, with your loins girt and your lamp burning, awaiting the Master's knock without a tremor, for He who comes to call you is the same who touched John and said, “Do not be afraid.” The Lord grant you a full assurance of these things, until death itself becomes but a door into the presence-chamber of the King.

The death you once feared has been changed into a sleep. Since Christ came, death is no longer what it was, it is henceforth a sleep, as He said of the synagogue ruler’s daughter. He did this to teach us not to fear death, for it is not death, but rest. He Himself would die, and in raising others He prepared His disciples to be of good courage. So now, when you hear Him say, “He that believeth on Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live,” understand that this death is common to all, yet for the believer it carries no sting. Christ is the Resurrection and the Life; possessing Him, you need not be troubled, even if one you love has fallen asleep. This is not death. And He who was dead and is alive forevermore holds the keys of death and of Hades. Where, then, is your fear?

Fear not those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. What though they slay you? Over the better part they shall not prevail, though they strive ten thousand ways. He did not say they do not kill the soul, but they are not able to kill it. They may wish it, but they shall not succeed. So if you fear punishment, fear rather the One able to destroy both soul and body in hell. That is the true death, the only one to dread. For those who are in Christ have been planted together in the likeness of His death, and they shall be in the likeness of His resurrection. His body buried in the earth brought forth the salvation of the world; our burial in baptism bears the fruit of righteousness, sanctification, and the promise of resurrection. And if you are conformed to His death through suffering, how great is that dignity! We become brothers to Him in this, as Paul, who bore in his body the dying of the Lord Jesus and longed to attain the resurrection from the dead.

Now the devil’s power is broken. He who once held the power of death has been brought to nought, for Christ conquered him by the very means of his strength, through death He destroyed death. And you, having received not a spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind, stand nobly, laughing death to scorn. He that fears death is a slave all his life; but you are free, you count not even your life dear. The afflictions you endure make your victory more glorious. Whether by life or by death, Christ shall be magnified in your body. In nothing shall you be put to shame, neither in life nor death. For to bear either nobly is the part of a Christian soul. Therefore, let your heart be flooded with light to know the hope of your calling, the riches of His inheritance, and the exceeding greatness of His power toward you who believe.
