Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this prayer and the burden on your heart for your wife, your family, and all those who have heard the Word. There is deep faith in your words as you look to God to do what only He can do, and that is right and good.
You are standing on true promises. The Word of God does not return empty but accomplishes what He purposes, like rain that waters the earth. The seed is the Word, and when it is planted and watered, God Himself gives the growth. One plants, another waters, but it is God who brings life. In that same way the Holy Spirit convicts of sin and reveals truth, and the kindness of God leads toward repentance. You are right to ask Him to keep bringing truth, to restrain evil, and to place others across the paths of those you love to speak that truth in love. He orders steps, and He is patient, not wanting anyone to perish but wanting all to come to repentance and to come to the knowledge of the truth through Jesus Christ alone.
At the heart of your prayer is repentance, and that is at the heart of the gospel. The first preachers came calling people to turn from sin for the forgiveness of sins, and Jesus Himself came with the same call. He said He did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance, because those who are well do not need a physician but those who are sick do. That call has never stopped. To the churches He still says turn and be changed. True repentance is not just sorrow or words, it is a turning, a change of mind and direction that is seen in a changed life and in restoration. When David sinned he confessed that his sin was against God, and the evidence of a true work of God was the change that followed. Where there is genuine turning, there is new life.
This is why you can have hope as you pray for humbling. Before honor comes humility. Scripture shows how God humbles those who need to be humbled so they may come to their senses, like the king who was brought low until he lifted his eyes and acknowledged God, and like the prodigal who came to himself far from home and turned back to his father. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to life. And heaven rejoices over one sinner who truly turns. God is able to restore what has been broken.
Continue to pray with confidence. Your prayers matter. The Word is living and active and judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart, and the Father is always at work. He who began a good work will carry it to completion. He rewards those who diligently seek Him, and the fervent prayer of those made righteous through faith in Christ has great power. Keep asking Him to keep you and your loved ones, including your wife and your children and those who have served alongside you, from evil, deception and temptation, and to cause all of you to receive a love for the truth so that you may be saved.
I join you in praying that God will guard your marriage covenant as He designed it to be, a lifelong union of one man and one woman, and that He will bring conviction, humility, and true turning where it is needed. May He cause the seeds already planted to take root, may He send faithful people to water them, may He grant repentance that leads to forgiveness and restoration, and may He be glorified in all of it. We ask this through Jesus alone, who is the only way of salvation, and in His name, amen.
