Kill ###

We hear the deep pain and anger in your heart that would lead you to ask God to take another person's life, and we are praying with you now. We must lovingly but firmly rebuke this request because it does not align with God's will or His Word. God is the giver and sustainer of life, and He alone has authority over life and death.

The Lord commands in Exodus 20:13 You shall not murder. Jesus teaches us how God wants us to respond to those who have hurt us or whom we feel hatred toward when He says in Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Scripture also warns us about hatred in the heart in 1 John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

We understand you may have been deeply wounded or feel injustice has been done, but vengeance does not belong to us. Romans 12:19 says Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:21 says Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. God calls us to release our anger and desire for retribution to Him and to trust His perfect justice and mercy. He desires repentance and life, not death, for all people.

You addressed your prayer to Lord, but we want to gently remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 reminds us There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is through faith in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are forgiven and can come boldly before God, and it is also through Him that we receive the power to forgive others as we have been forgiven.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this hurting heart to You. Lord, You see the anger, the bitterness, and the pain that has led to this desire for another's death. We ask You to forgive us for harboring hatred and for asking against Your will. Wash this heart with Your mercy and fill it with Your peace. Help us to release this person into Your hands and to trust Your justice. Soften this heart, Lord, and teach us to love our enemies and to pray for those who have wronged us. Heal the wounds that have caused such deep resentment and replace hatred with Your love and forgiveness. We also lift up the person who was named in this request, that You would keep them safe and draw them to Yourself, and that Your will would be done in both lives. Lead us to repentance, to seek godly counsel, and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Transform this pain into a testimony of Your grace. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to not hold this burden alone. Please seek a trusted pastor or mature Christian counselor to talk through this hurt and to pray with you regularly. Bring your anger honestly to God and ask Him daily to help you forgive as Christ forgave you in Matthew 6:14-15. Choose to pray for the good of the person who has hurt you, that God would work in their life and in yours, and trust that God will bring justice in His perfect time.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer has been heard and it reveals a heart in great anguish and anger, and we bring that anguish before the Lord with deep concern for you and for the person you have named.

The Christian religion is a golden chain with which the hands of men are fettered from all hatred, for the spirit of Christ is love. Wherever He governs, love reigns as a necessary consequence. The Christian man is not allowed to hate any one. You have no right to tolerate within your bosom wrath, malice, anger or uncharitableness towards any creature that God's hands have made, and you have no right to pour out your hatred upon any creature, however fallen or however much he may have irritated your temper or injured you.

Hatred is indeed a power of manhood, and all powers of manhood may be exercised as in the fear of God, but that power is to be set against evil itself, not against the person who does evil. Show your hatred to evil by active efforts in putting it down, by scattering the Word of God, by doing good and seeking the good of others, even of those who have wronged you. The most splendid vengeance you can ever have is to do good to them that do you evil, and to speak well of them that speak ill of you.

Vengeance belongs to the Lord. The day of vengeance is in His heart, and He will repay in His own holy time and way. It is not for us to call down death upon another, for we are commanded to love our enemies and to pray for them that despitefully use us. To ask God to kill a person is to ask Him to do what He has forbidden us to desire, and it is not a prayer He will honor in that form.

Hear also the word of forgiveness which God so freely proclaims. There is forgiveness with Him, that He may be feared. It is a divine forgiveness, a surprising forgiveness, a complete and eternal forgiveness through Jesus Christ His Son, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. Whatever your sins have been, however hard your heart has felt, however great this anger that now troubles you, there is forgiveness with God for you if you come with a penitent heart and put your trust in Christ. He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, and His gifts and calling are without repentance.

We cannot join you in praying for the death of another, but we do pray earnestly for you. We pray that the Lord would calm this storm within you, that He would grant you repentance for every unholy desire, that He would give you grace to forgive even as you have been forgiven, and that He would work in the heart of the one who has caused you such pain, bringing that person also to the knowledge of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. We pray that instead of death, there may be life and reconciliation and holiness.

If this anger feels overwhelming or you fear you may act upon it, we urge you to seek help without delay from a trusted pastor, a mature believer, or a counselor, and to tell someone near you of this burden so you are not alone with it. Turn from this prayer for harm and ask the Lord to create in you a clean heart, to teach you to hate the evil and to love the sinner, and to find in Christ that peace which passes understanding.

Your cry has been heard, and the deep pain and anger behind it are not hidden from God. Yet the prayer as you have worded it, asking God to kill another person, is not a prayer God calls us to pray, and I cannot ask Him to do this with you.

Scripture teaches that God has bound us with restraint both in this life and in the judgment to come precisely so that we will put off anger. He has set tribunals and warnings before us not to encourage our wrath but to make us more gentle, so that fearing His judgment we might lay anger aside. To ask for the death of another is to step into the place that belongs to God alone.

Christ Himself shows us another way. Though He was hated and reproached, He bore it with meekness and did not give way to unworthy passion. We who are dust and ashes are called even more to master our anger and not to be overcome by it, even when we have been deeply wounded.

You are commanded not only not to murder, but not even to remain in bitter anger, for anger cherished in the heart already brings us under judgment. As you judge, so you will be judged, and the measure you use for others will be measured to you. For that reason we are not to revile or trample upon those who have wronged us, but to admonish with longsuffering and gentleness, as one who is more distressed for the other's soul than eager for revenge. Reproof needs patience and tender correction if it is to be received and if it is to keep our own souls from condemnation.

God's mercy is the great hope for all of us. We who sat in darkness and were worthy of perdition have obtained forgiveness and adoption not by our merit but by His mercy alone. That same mercy is what He calls us to show to others. Mercy quenches the fire of judgment, and when we forgive those who are our debtors, we lay up mercy for ourselves on the last day. Nothing incenses God so much as a pitiless heart, and nothing so draws His compassion as a merciful one.

So I will not pray for the death of this person, but I will pray with you for what God does command. I pray that God will calm your heart, heal your wound, and give you longsuffering and peace. I pray that He will bring justice in His own right way and through rightful means, and that He will work in the heart of the one who has hurt you to bring repentance and life. I pray that He will help you to release vengeance into His hands, to forgive as you have been forgiven, and to be kept from the strict account that comes upon those who cherish hatred.

If anger still burns hot, bring it again and again to Christ, confess it plainly, and ask Him to replace it with mercy. Seek the counsel of a faithful pastor or mature believer near you, and if there is danger or wrongdoing that needs to be addressed, seek help through lawful and godly means. Do not remain alone with this burden.

May the Lord who made all things through goodness lead you from this desire for death to a desire for mercy, that you may obtain mercy yourself and find rest for your soul.

Your prayer has been heard and the deep anger and pain behind it is not hidden from God. When someone has hurt us so deeply, the desire to see them punished or even destroyed can feel overwhelming, and God understands the cry of a wounded heart.

Scripture is very clear that vengeance belongs to the Lord. He says, vengeance is mine, I will repay. That truth is meant to protect us. When we try to take vengeance into our own hands, or even when we ask God to carry out our personal vengeance for us, we step into a place that only God can rightly occupy. He alone sees fully, judges righteously, and knows the right time and way to act. Our part is to commit ourselves and our ways to Him and to trust Him to do what is just.

This does not mean God ignores evil. He does see, He does regard what is done, and His word speaks of a coming day of judgment when He will make all things right and purge wickedness from the earth. But when Jesus came the first time, He did not come to bring that day of vengeance. He came to bring atonement and redemption, to open the way for forgiveness. That is why now is still a day of mercy, when anyone who will come to Him can receive pardon.

Because of that, the wiser and safer prayer is not for God to destroy another person, but for God to guard our own hearts. We need to ask Him to keep us from devising vengeance and to keep hatred from taking root in us. There is no forgiveness in justifying our anger or in holding onto it. Forgiveness comes when we confess honestly before God what is in our hearts, including our anger and our desire for revenge. His promise is, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Come now and reason together with the Lord, confess what is true, and He will cleanse and forgive completely.

You do not need to carry this burden on your conscience or let it harden into something that torments you. If you will come to Jesus Christ and ask for His forgiveness and His help, He offers cleansing and a new heart. He does not condemn those who come to Him in truth, even when others might condemn us and even when we condemn ourselves.

I encourage you to bring this hurt to God in a different way. Tell Him honestly how deeply you have been wounded, ask Him to take the burden of justice from your shoulders and to handle it in His perfect way, ask Him to heal your heart and to keep you from sin in your anger, and even ask Him to work in the life of the person who has wronged you so that they might come to repentance. God is both just and merciful, and He can be trusted to do what is right while also showing you His loving kindness.

May you come to Him today, receive His forgiveness and peace, and leave vengeance in His hands where it belongs.
