Your prayer for your daughter and your son comes from a heart that loves them deeply, and God hears that kind of praying. To lift up your hands for the life of your young children, to ask Him to watch over them, to guide them and keep them from harm, is one of the most important things you can do as a parent.

God knows the struggles you described. He knows when a child is not doing well in school, when behavior is difficult, when there is anger or a rebellious spirit, and when you fear bad influences around them. Scripture shows that even when His people were stubborn and hard hearted, He remained long suffering and slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. He did not stop speaking to them, He did not stop offering His fatherly care and protection. That same heart is toward your children now. He wants to be their protector and to walk with them step by step, holding their hand and leading them on the right path.

Part of that leading is the work only He can do inside them. The apostle Paul spoke of travailing in prayer until Christ be formed in his spiritual children. That is a picture for you as well, to keep praying with that kind of earnest love until Jesus is truly formed in your daughter and your son. A parent's faith and love cannot be transferred automatically. Each child needs their own relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. We do not come to God or stay close to Him by trying to keep a law or by earning favor through good behavior, and we cannot make our children right with God that way either. We come through the promises of God received by faith, through the blood of Jesus that covers us from head to foot. Pray that they will each come to know that love personally, that they will know they are loved and cared for, that the Holy Spirit is with them, and that they belong to the Lord.

As you pray, continue to give them what God has given you to give. Tell them in simple ways what the Lord has done, how He delivers and forgives and keeps, so that they can one day tell others. Provide as you are able a loving and stable environment where they learn kindness, patience, understanding, wisdom and faith not just by correction but by example and instruction. And keep asking the Lord to shield them. The influences around children today are strong and often impure, and they need prayer for protection from filthiness and violence and from companions who would lead them away from what is good. Ask Him to surround them with healthy relationships and to give them a desire for what is pure and right.

I join you in praying for them now. Lord, cover this daughter and this son with the blood of Jesus. Keep evil and harm far from them. Give them guidance for every decision and help them to make good choices. Give them a hunger to learn, help where school is hard, and place them away from bad influences. Take away rebellion and anger and fill them instead with kindness, patience, understanding, wisdom, faith and love. Let them know without doubt that they are Your children, that You are always with them, and that Your Holy Spirit will lead them. Draw each of them to salvation through Jesus alone and form Christ in them, that they may walk in Your ways all their lives. Amen.
