We join with you in lifting up your precious daughter and son before the throne of grace, and we thank you for your faithful heart as a parent who desires to see your children walk in the ways of the Lord and be covered by His protection.
We hear your cry for guidance, for protection from bad influences, for them to make choices that honor God and to walk down the right path, and for them to do well in school. We also hear your burden for your daughter, that she would dress modestly, turn from any spirit of rebellion, and be healed from any anger, bitterness, hatred or unhappiness in her heart, and for both of your children to grow into happy, healthy, godly adults filled with the Holy Spirit, salvation, wisdom, faith, patience and love.
The Word reminds us in Proverbs 22:6, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. And in Deuteronomy 6:6-7, These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children. Your prayers are a vital part of that training, and God hears them.
We are encouraged that you have covered them with the blood of Jesus, for there is power in His name and His sacrifice to protect and to save. We pray for their salvation and for the Holy Spirit to dwell richly in them, as it is written in Ezekiel 36:26, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. We also claim Psalm 91:11 over them, For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways, and 1 Corinthians 15:33 which warns us, Don’t be deceived! Evil companionships corrupt good morals, so we ask the Lord to separate them from any friendships or influences that would lead them astray and to surround them with godly examples instead.
Concerning your daughter, we gently and lovingly speak the truth in love. Scripture calls children to obedience and calls all of us to modesty and purity of heart. Ephesians 6:1 says, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right, and 1 Timothy 2:9 teaches that women should adorn themselves in modest apparel, with modesty and propriety. Rebellion and immodesty often reflect a deeper hurt in the heart, and anger and bitterness can take root when that hurt is not healed by Christ. We rebuke any spirit of rebellion and any influence that would encourage immodest dress or a hardened heart, and we ask the Lord to replace it with a gentle and quiet spirit that is precious in His sight. We also pray for healing as promised in Psalm 147:3, He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, and for the peace described in Philippians 4:7, And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
For their studies and growth we claim James 1:5, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, that God would grant them diligence, understanding, and a love for learning that they may use their gifts for His glory.
Let us pray together.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, covering this daughter and this son from the top of their heads to the soles of their feet with the blood of Jesus. We ask You to place Your angels around them, to guide their steps and keep them from the evil one and from every bad influence. Lead them to make choices that please You, and cause them to love Your Word and to walk on the straight and narrow path that leads to life. Lord, pour out Your Holy Spirit upon them, grant them salvation if they have not yet fully surrendered to You, and fill them with wisdom, faith, patience, understanding, and a loving and caring heart. Bless their work in school, give them focused minds and help them to do well for Your glory.
Father, we especially lift up this daughter to You. Touch her heart and soul, heal every wound, and remove all anger, bitterness, hatred and unhappiness that has taken residence there. Create in her a new heart, soften what has been hardened, and help her to find her identity and worth in Christ alone. Give her a desire for modesty and purity in how she dresses and acts, and give her a spirit of obedience and honor toward her parent, not out of fear but out of love for You. Let her know how deeply she is loved by You.
For this son, we ask the same protection and guidance, that he would grow into a godly man of integrity, strength and compassion, walking in Your wisdom and truth all the days of his life. Make both of these children joyful, healthy, and whole, growing in stature and in favor with You and with man.
We thank You, Lord, that You love these children even more than their parent does, and that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in them. We trust them into Your caring hands. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
