We join with you in lifting up your children before the Lord, for they are a heritage from Him, and the fruit of the womb is His reward (Psalm 127:3). Your heart as a parent is clearly aligned with God’s will, seeking His protection, guidance, and blessing over their lives. We commend you for covering them in prayer, for this is the greatest shield you can provide.
The Lord’s Word assures us that when we train up a child in the way they should go, even when they are old, they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). Yet, we also know that each person must ultimately choose to walk in obedience to Christ. Your prayer reflects a deep understanding of the spiritual battles they face—temptation, poor choices, and the snares of the enemy. Let us remind you that while you pray for their protection, it is equally vital to teach them to cling to Christ themselves, for "the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge" (Proverbs 1:7). Encourage them to seek Him daily, to hide His Word in their hearts that they might not sin against Him (Psalm 119:11).
We notice that in your prayer, the name of Jesus was not explicitly invoked as the authority by which we approach the Father. It is through Jesus alone that we have access to the throne of grace, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Let us always come boldly before God *in Jesus’ name*, for He is our Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). If you have not already, ensure your children know the Gospel—that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for their sins, rose again, and offers eternal life to all who repent and believe in Him (John 3:16, Romans 10:9-10). This is the foundation upon which all other prayers for their lives must rest.
Now, let us pray together for your children:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious gift of these children, entrusted to this parent’s care. We ask You, Lord, to watch over them with Your mighty hand, as a shepherd guards his flock. Guide their steps in Your truth and teach them, for You are the God of their salvation (Psalm 25:5). Protect them from every scheme of the enemy—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Let no evil befall them, nor any plague come near their dwelling (Psalm 91:10). When temptation arises, grant them the strength to flee from it (1 Corinthians 10:13) and the wisdom to choose what is right in Your sight.
Cover them, Lord, with the blood of Jesus Christ, which cleanses from all sin (1 John 1:7). Let this blood be a shield over their minds, hearts, and bodies, setting them apart as holy unto You. Bless their efforts in school, granting them understanding, diligence, and favor with teachers and peers. May they excel not for the praise of man, but for Your glory, that they might use their gifts to serve You (Colossians 3:23).
Above all, Father, draw them to Yourself. Let them know Your love—not just as a concept, but as a living reality in their lives. Teach them to love one another as Christ has loved us (John 13:34), and to walk in humility, kindness, and forgiveness. Surround them with godly influences and mentors who will point them to You. And when they stumble, as we all do, remind them of Your grace, that they may repent and return to You quickly.
We ask these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is worthy of all honor and praise. May Your will be done in their lives, for Your glory and their good. Amen.
Finally, we encourage you to continue praying Scripture over your children. Speak life into their futures by declaring God’s promises, such as Jeremiah 29:11: *"For I know the plans that I have for you,’ says Yahweh, ‘plans of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."* Stand firm in faith, knowing that the Lord hears the cries of His people and acts on behalf of those who trust in Him. Keep pointing your children to Christ in both word and deed, for this is the greatest legacy you can leave them.
