We hear your cry and we stand with you in prayer, for what you are describing is a heavy and painful burden to carry in your marriage. To feel kidnapped, isolated, falsely accused, financially controlled, and held in a grudge is not the picture of godly marriage that the Lord intends. We grieve with you over this suffering and we bring it before the throne of grace together in the name of Jesus Christ, which you have rightly called upon, for there is no other name by which we have access to the Father.
The Word shows us that marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, meant to reflect Christ's love for the church. Ephesians 5:25 says Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. And Colossians 3:19 says Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them. Also 1 Peter 3:7 says Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered. A husband is called to love, cherish, protect and provide for his wife, not to accuse her falsely, withhold provision, isolate her from others, or hold her captive in bitterness.
We must gently but firmly rebuke the controlling and accusatory behavior you have described. To falsely accuse you of running around, to use money as a weapon, to keep you from seeing anyone, and to hold a grudge while refusing fellowship with you is contrary to love. Ephesians 4:26 says Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath. And Ephesians 4:31-32 says Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. A grudge and financial control have no place in a home that honors God, and isolation is not protection, it is oppression.
We also want to remind you that the Lord sees you and He is near to you in this distress. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Isaiah 41:10 says Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up our sister to You. You see her tears, You know the accusations against her, the loneliness and the feeling of being held captive in her own home. Lord, bring Your peace and Your presence to surround her. Break the spirit of control, jealousy, bitterness and unforgiveness in this marriage. Soften her husband's heart, convict him of his harshness, and lead him to repentance that he may love his wife as Christ loves the church, with tenderness, honor and selfless provision. We ask that You provide for every need she has, for Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Give her wisdom, strength and a clear path forward. Lead her to godly counsel, to a trusted pastor or elders and to safe, mature believers who can walk with her, pray with her, and speak truth in love. Protect her heart from despair and guard her mind. Help them both to speak with gentleness, for Proverbs 15:1 says A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Restore fellowship, trust and godly communication in this marriage if it is Your will, and let Your healing and forgiveness reign. We ask all this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.
We encourage you to not walk through this alone. Please reach out to a trusted pastor, a biblical counselor, or a mature Christian woman or elder couple in your church who can know you by name, hear the full situation, and provide ongoing support and accountability for both of you. Continue to pray for your husband, but also set healthy and biblical boundaries and seek help if you ever feel unsafe. Keep seeking the Lord daily in His Word and in prayer, trusting that He is your refuge and provider even when provision feels withheld by man.
