Joshua 1:7-8 - “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” NLT

I am sure that all of us would love to be successful and prosperous in our lives. Isn’t it? But many try to attain them through worldly ways and fail in their lives. Our Heavenly Father loves to see His children become successful and prosperous. And He has prescribed a way to become successful in our lives. We see these principles in the words of Moses to Joshua. Moses tells Joshua out of his huge experience that the key to be successful and prosperous in the sight of God is by abiding in the Word of God. Moses tells Joshua to just to stick to the Word of God without deviating from it to either right or left. Moreover, he instructs three things to be done in relation to the word of God:

1. Study the Word.
There is a difference between reading and studying the Word of God. Bible often instructs us to study the Word than mere reading of it. It is by studying the Word carefully, we will be able to derive the right meaning of the text and consequently apply it rightly in our lives. Unfortunately many believers settle down for a mere reading of the Word and miss out on hearing God’s voice speaking through the Scriptures. As a result, they come out with their own interpretation and application of the Scriptures, which is very dangerous. Studying the Word involves getting to understand the author of the book, its historical and political background, the purpose for writing that particular book, the audience to whom it was written, and various other important details. To get these details, the minimum you would require is a good study Bible. If you can get hold of good commentaries, dictionaries, and concordances, then it would be excellent.

2. Meditate the Word.
It is not sufficient just to study the Word, we need to meditate upon it day and night. Bible study is not meant to be a mere mental exercise to gain knowledge but it is meant to transform our lives. In order to be transformed by the Word, we need to meditate upon it. Unfortunately, we have lost the art of meditation to many philosophies of the world. Meditation is a biblical principle. Many complain that they don’t know to mediate. If any person who knows how to worry is able to mediate also. For meditation is just the opposite of worrying. In worrying you fix your minds on things that bother you while in meditation you choose to fix your mind on the Word of God.

3. Obey the Word.
Our studying and meditating of the Word should lead us to obey the Word. This is where many of the believers struggle. Obedience is what proves our love for God and faith in Him. Many believers don’t mind praying, reading the Word, and maybe even fasting but they find a problem in obeying the Word.
It is obedience that pleases God and unlocks the blessings of God in our lives.

So the key to godly success and prosperity is Studying, meditating, and obeying the Word. May the Lord enable us to do so and become successful and prosperous for the glory of God!

Stay blessed!

Amen
