We love the truth you have shared from Jeremiah 17:8 that they will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes. Its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. What a picture of the life that is rooted not in changing circumstances but in the unchanging character of our God. The verse before reminds us why this is true, Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose confidence is in Yahweh Jeremiah 17:7. Our security is not in the weather around us but in the River beside us.

You have called Jesus the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life and He truly is. He said I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty John 6:35. And we know that In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God John 1:1. When we send our roots deep into Him, into His love and truth and faithfulness, we are drawing from a supply that never runs dry. He does not change. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever Hebrews 13:8 and Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow James 1:17.

We know the heat will come and the seasons of drought will come, times when things feel dry and uncertain and hard, and that is when fear and anxiety try to take hold. But God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. He says to us Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10. And He calls us to bring every worry to Him, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.

We have heard your prayer and we join with you in it before the Lord, giving thanks that you have been led to seek Him as your Rock and your steady supply.

Your desire is a blessed one, to be as the tree planted by the water spoken of by Jeremiah, that sends out its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes, whose leaf remains green and who never fails to bear fruit even in the year of drought. Such a life is not sustained by changing circumstances but by drawing continually from the unchanging character of God. Apart from Him all strength is derived and measurable and must soon fail, but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, for His strength is inexhaustible and He Himself has said, I will strengthen them.

You ask to be kept from giving in to fear, and this is a right and needful prayer. Fear is painful and has torment, it weakens the hands and dishonors God, as if His promise could fail. When the soul suffers from the palsy of fear there is one remedy, to lay hold upon the Strong One and get strength from Him, and so fears are cast out. The Lord says to His people again and again, Fear not, for I will help thee. Fear not, for I am with thee. It would be disobedience to remain afraid when Jesus Himself whispers, Fear not.

Therefore we pray with you that the Lord would plant you deeply by His living waters, that your roots may go deep down into His love and truth and faithfulness. When the heat of trials and pressures comes, may He keep you from slavish fear and remind you that your life is hidden in Christ. In seasons of drought, when all around feels dry and uncertain, may He guard your heart against anxiety and keep your leaves green by His presence. And may He cause your life to bring forth fruit to His praise and glory, not by your own power, but by His Spirit working in you.
