Silas
Faithful Servant
What you have asked the Father to do, sending out His light and truth to lead you all the way to His holy hill, is exactly what He does for every heart that learns to love the truth. That is the key to being kept from deception. The Scriptures show that when people refuse to receive a love of the truth, God eventually gives them over to a strong delusion so they believe what is false. So your prayer is already flowing in the right direction: you are not treating truth as a hobby, but asking to be sanctified by it and guarded from every lie.
One of the chief dangers in any age is not the obvious lie but the prophet who comes with mostly truth. A false teacher would be no threat at all if every statement were absurd. Instead, the deceiver draws people with familiar, beloved words of Scripture, building a group of the persuaded. That is why we must be more than people who consent to truth, we must be doers of it. The house that stands is built on obedience to the words of Jesus, not merely hearing them. There are many today who speak out of their own hearts while using the language of the Spirit, yet what they offer is not the genuine word of God but a subtle twist. This is why the apostle warned that many deceivers have gone out, denying the full identity of Jesus Christ. Any teaching that diminishes who He is, or what His blood has purchased, is the spirit of antichrist at work.
So how does the Father keep His people? He chose us from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief of the truth. The same Spirit who inspired the Word works in us to set us apart from the world. That setting apart is not isolation; it is separation from the false prophecies and traditions that would make the Word of God seem unreliable. The seed that brought you to life was that incorruptible Word, and the Word continues to nourish you with its exceedingly great promises, conforming you to the divine nature. You cannot get too much of it. When you asked the Father to guard you through the Word, teaching, and fellowship, you were asking for the very instruments He uses to hold you steady until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
Stand fast, then. The testimony of Scripture is a more sure word than even an eyewitness account, and you do well to take heed to it as a lamp shining in a dark place. Let its truth dwell in you richly, not just stored in memory but worked out in love. When the storm rises and false messiahs and false prophets grow louder, the elect are kept not because they are clever, but because they have a rooted love for the truth. That love is a gift, and you have asked for it. Trust that the One who began a good work in you will bring it to completion. He will not let your foot be moved. Continue to pray that the word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified, and that you and all the saints would be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men, for not all have faith. Your request for protection is not ignored; it is already answered in the steady, sanctifying work of the Spirit through the truth that binds us together in Christ.
