Your burden for justice for the people of Venezuela is heard and it is right to bring it before the Lord in prayer. The desire for judges who are honest, upright, decent and honorable is a desire that God Himself shares.

Scripture shows that God cares deeply about who judges His people. In the history of Israel after Joshua, God raised up judges to deliver the people from those who oppressed them. When the nation turned away from God and did what was right in its own eyes, there was moral and civil confusion and injustice increased. When God raised up a judge who walked with Him, there was deliverance and a season of peace. That cycle repeated many times, and it teaches us that a nation needs leaders who will not follow their own ideas of right and wrong but will submit to the righteous standard of God.

God is just. Justice means receiving what is deserved. Mercy means not receiving what is deserved, and grace means receiving blessing we do not deserve. We thank God that in our own lives He has shown us mercy and grace through Jesus Christ, for no one can have a righteous standing before God by keeping the law or by good works. The law shows us our sin, but righteousness comes only through faith in Jesus. At the same time, when we belong to Him, our lives should bear the fruit of that righteousness, which includes honesty, integrity and a love for what is right. What God wants from any leader or judge is not mere lip service but an honest heart that truly seeks to do justice.

It is also good to bring honest prayers and even honest questions to God. He respects an honest heart that sincerely seeks to know and do His will, and He confirms His word to those who seek Him truthfully.

We join you in praying that God in His sovereignty would oversee the process of examining and choosing those who will occupy seats on the Supreme Tribunal of Justice in Venezuela. We ask that He would raise up men and women of integrity who fear God, who love truth, who will not be bought or swayed by corruption or power, and who will judge with fairness and impartiality. We pray that those who are dishonest or self seeking would be set aside and that those who are honorable would be appointed. We pray that through just judges the people would know greater peace and protection from oppression, and that the nation would be turned toward the Lord.

May the Lord grant justice for Venezuela, and may He also bring many to know the true righteousness that is found only in Jesus Christ.
