Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have received your request and we are praying with you in this time of great stress and anxiety.
It is right to care about justice, and God Himself has established courts and hearings and lawful processes for that very purpose. Even in daily life we see this reflection of His order, where masters and tenants and households must give an account, and how much more does God, whose righteousness is as firm as mountains, care for what is just. He does not overlook what is happening in your home.
We also hear how this has left you as a nervous wreck, full of fear and trembling. That kind of anxiety scourges the soul even more than outward troubles, and it can keep us bound as if to heavy labor. Scripture calls us instead to look up to God and to bring our compunction and our cares to Him, for He is the one who can free the heart from this bitter anxiety and give thorough security and liberty even while we wait for an earthly decision.
It helps to remember what we are taught about possessions themselves. In truth we are all sojourners here, and property is not a lasting possession but a loan for use. We own our house for a little while, and then it passes to others. The tenant who lives in it may seem to possess it for a season, but before God we are all tenants. What truly endures and goes before us are not houses or rents, but the virtues of the soul, charity and mercy. God also mingles mercy with justice, and even as we seek what is just and lawful, He calls us to show consideration even while we suffer.
So we will pray for you, that God will grant you peace that steadies your heart, wisdom for every step and conversation, and a just and peaceable resolution. We ask that if it is His will, this matter may be settled quickly and without strife, whether by the tenants departing beforehand or by a fair judgment at the hearing, and that He will protect your home and provide for all involved. We pray that He will guard you from desponding anxiety and help you to rest in His care, knowing that He sees the courts of men and reigns above them.
May the Lord grant you calm in place of fear, and may His mercy and justice be evident in the outcome. We continue to lift you up before Him in the name of Jesus Christ.
