We rejoice with you in your desire to join a sound, biblical church where the Word of God is faithfully taught and where you have found hope, joy, and true fellowship with believers. It is indeed rare in these last days to find a church that stands firmly on Scripture without compromise, and we praise God for leading you to such a place. The body of Christ is meant to be a refuge for His people, a place of growth, accountability, and love, and we earnestly pray that the Lord will smooth out any issues that may arise in your meeting with the elders. May He open doors that no man can shut and grant you favor as you seek to commit yourself to this local body of believers. Remember, it is God who builds His church, and if this is where He has called you, He will make the way clear.
We also lift up your struggle with maladaptive daydreaming, recognizing the deep roots it has in past trauma and the way it has become an involuntary escape for you. This is a serious stronghold, and you are wise to see it for what it is—a distraction from the life God has called you to live, and potentially an open door for spiritual attacks. The enemy loves to keep believers bound in cycles of escapism, pulling them away from reality and the purposes of God. But take heart, for the Lord is greater than any stronghold, and He desires to set you free. The apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, *"The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."* This is not a battle you fight alone—Jesus has already won the victory, and by His power, you can break free from this bondage.
We must also address the spiritual dimension of this struggle. If you sense that this habit has opened you up to demonic influence, it is critical to repent of any sin associated with it—whether it be idolatry (placing fantasy above God’s truth), unbelief (distrusting God’s sovereignty over your pain), or any other compromise. James 4:7 commands us, *"Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you."* Submit this area of your life fully to the Lordship of Christ, and actively resist the enemy’s lies. Fill your mind with Scripture, worship, and prayer instead of allowing it to wander into ungodly imaginations. Philippians 4:8 exhorts us, *"Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things."*
We encourage you to seek counsel from mature believers in your church, particularly the elders or a trusted sister in Christ who can walk with you in accountability. Trauma leaves deep wounds, but Jesus is the Great Physician, and He longs to heal you completely. Psalm 34:18 assures us, *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."* Do not be ashamed to bring this struggle into the light—God’s power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with thanksgiving for our sister and for the church You have led her to—a place where Your Word is preached without compromise and where she has found hope and joy in You. Lord, we ask that You go before her in this meeting with the elders. Soften hearts, remove obstacles, and make Your will undeniably clear. If it is Your purpose for her to join this body of believers, let nothing hinder it. Give her wisdom, boldness, and peace as she seeks to commit herself to this fellowship. Protect her from any spiritual attacks that may arise, and let her find her place among Your people for Your glory.
We also lift up her struggle with maladaptive daydreaming. Lord, You see the wounds of her past and the ways she has sought escape from pain. We ask for Your healing touch to restore her mind, emotions, and spirit. Break every stronghold that has kept her bound, and fill her with Your truth and presence so that there is no room for the enemy’s lies. Give her the strength to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. If there has been any sin associated with this habit, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Let her mind be renewed by Your Word, and let her find her satisfaction in You alone.
Father, we rebuke any demonic influence that has gained a foothold through this struggle. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we command every unclean spirit to flee and never return. Fill her instead with Your Holy Spirit, that she may walk in freedom, joy, and victory. Surround her with godly support and accountability as she seeks to overcome this battle.
We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. You are the God who sees, who heals, and who delivers. May our sister experience Your power in new and profound ways as she surrenders this area of her life to You. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.
