Job situation

Disciple of Prayer
Please can you pray for me. I have been told today that I am being put at risk of redundancy despite additional funding becoming available. They have put me in a selection pool with ### others for a job I have no experience in against ### people who are already doing that job. I am on a desperate situation and don’t see a way out. I would really appreciate prayer

We have read your request and we are joining with you in prayer in this desperate and uncertain time. To be told you are at risk of redundancy, especially when you know additional funding has become available, and then to be placed in a selection pool for a role you have no experience in against people already doing that work, feels deeply unfair and overwhelming. We understand why you feel there is no way out, but we want to remind you that our God sees your situation clearly and He has not abandoned you.

We are told in Psalm 46:1 that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. And in Isaiah 41:10 He says, Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Even when we cannot see a way forward, God can make a way where there seems to be no way, as He promises in Isaiah 43:19.

We also hear your anxiety and we want to encourage you to bring every detail of this to the Lord. Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Jesus Himself reminds us in Matthew 6:31-33 not to be anxious about what we will need, but to seek first Gods Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Our Father knows your need for provision, for dignity in your work, and for security.

We encourage you to continue to trust Him with your whole heart and not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And we cling to Romans 8:28 that we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. Even this painful selection process can be used by God for your good, whether He keeps you in this position, opens a better door elsewhere, or provides in an unexpected way. Do what is in your hands to do with diligence and integrity, as Colossians 3:23 says, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, and trust God with the outcome. Seek wise counsel, document your experience and contributions, and ask for clarity about the process, while resting in the knowledge that your ultimate security is in Christ, not in any employer.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why that is so important to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We pray in Jesus name because His death and resurrection opened the way for us to be forgiven, to be made right with God, and to come boldly before His throne with our needs. If you have not yet put your trust in Him, we encourage you to believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved as Romans 10:9 promises.

We now pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see the fear and desperation, the sense of injustice and helplessness in this redundancy process. Lord, we ask for Your peace to guard this heart and mind. Provide clarity and wisdom for those making these decisions, and let fairness and truth prevail. If it is Your will, open the way for this job to be retained, or if not, open a better door of provision that no one can shut. Show Your power to provide where there seems to be no way out. Help this one to feel Your presence, to know You are near to the brokenhearted, and to trust that You have plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give a future and a hope as You promise in Jeremiah 29:11. Strengthen faith to seek You first and to rest in Your care. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We were sorry to read what you received today. Being placed at risk when you had reason to hope for more stability, and then being put into a pool for a role you have not done against people who already do it, would leave anyone feeling exposed and without options. It makes sense you feel desperate right now.

Part of what makes a job threat so heavy is how quickly it touches everything else, income, routine, and sense of worth. It can help to gently separate what has actually happened from what is feared might happen. You are at risk and in a difficult selection process, which is real and hard, but you have not yet lost your job and the outcome is not yet decided. Holding that distinction does not make the fear smaller, but it can keep it from running ahead of the facts.

When you are able, a couple of steady next steps may help you regain some footing:

Ask for the process in writing, the selection criteria, timeline, and how you can ask questions or appeal, so you have something clear to refer back to. And get independent advice quickly, through a union rep, HR contact, or an employment advice service in your area, who can review whether the pool and criteria are being applied fairly.

We are carrying this with you in prayer.

Father, we lift our brother to You in this uncertain wait. You see the pressure he is under and the way ahead he cannot yet see. Give him wisdom for each conversation, favor with those making decisions, and peace as he trusts You with his daily needs. Provide for him and guide his steps. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has come before us and we have carried it to the throne of grace, for the Lord hears the cry of those who are in a desperate situation and see no way out.

It is a bitter trial to be placed at risk when provision seems to have been made, and to be set in a selection pool for a work in which you have no experience against others who are already practiced in it. The heart is then greatly troubled and fear rises up to ask, Will He plead against me with His great power. We remember Job, who in all his losses and perplexities sinned not nor charged God foolishly, though the way of Providence was dark to him. The Lord who tried Job is the same God who beholds your lot this day.

We have learned that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits us to meet that difficulty. Fear is weakening and it dishonors God, for it questions whether the arm which piled the heavens shall ever be palsied. Therefore hear the word which the Lord speaks so often to His people, Fear not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will help thee, saith the Lord. That great power which you fear is not to plead against you, but to put strength in you. He who is Almighty will lend you His strength for this hour.

We pray for you that the peace of God which passes all understanding may keep your heart and mind through Christ Jesus, that you may be enabled to cast all your care upon Him, for He careth for you. We ask the Lord to grant you wisdom and favour before those who decide, to open a way where you see no way, and if it be His will to preserve to you your employment, or in His greater wisdom to provide another and better provision for your needs. May He uphold you so that in all this you sin not, but glorify Him by abiding confidence, saying with Job, Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.

Labor to get rid of fear by trusting the promise. Play the man and let your faith overcome your fear. The Lord who showed Job His glory at the last and restored him will not forget His own. Look to Him for divine support, and He will help thee.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I have read your request and I am praying for you in this very difficult and anxious time. To be placed at risk of redundancy, especially when you know additional funding has become available, and to be put into a selection pool for work you have not been trained to do while competing against those who already do it, is deeply unsettling and it is understandable that you feel desperate and see no way out.

Scripture reminds us that God is everywhere present and sees all that weighs on your heart. He knows the anxiety that can take hold when our livelihood is threatened, an anxiety that can disfigure our rest and steal our peace. Yet He calls us not to be mastered by fear of what people may do, for they can touch only outward circumstances and cannot touch the soul that is kept in Christ. He calls us instead to walk before Him with reverent trust and to bring our needs to Him, knowing that it is God who works in us both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Even when we feel unprepared and outmatched, He is able to give wisdom, strength and a steady mind to do what is set before us.

I pray for you now. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ I lift up this person to You. You see this job situation and the fear and anxiety it has brought. Grant peace that guards heart and mind in Christ, and deliver from the crushing weight of worry. Provide for daily needs according to Your riches and open a way where none seems to appear. Give wisdom to those making decisions about this role and funding, and grant that justice and fairness would prevail. Give to Your child clarity of mind, strength to face each step of this process, and confidence not in experience alone but in Your presence and help. If it is Your will, keep this door open, and if not, open another where gifts can be used for Your glory and for good. Help to trust You day by day and to rest in Your care. In Jesus name, Amen.

Please know you are not forgotten. Keep bringing this burden to the Lord in prayer, seek wise counsel and support around you, and trust that He who sees you now will not abandon you.
