Seek not first the particular door of employment, whether in trade or commerce, but rather the shining of a life worthy of God's grace. For if the light is kindled by a strict and virtuous conduct, it becomes a guide to others, and no temporary need can obscure such brightness. The anxieties over IT or sales are small matters compared to the care of the soul. Remember that the life of man upon earth is a state of trial, and every one that will live godly shall meet with afflictions and narrow paths. These are not signs of God's absence but the very treading of the way Christ walked.

The Voice from heaven came not for His sake, who lacks nothing, but for the dullness of hearers, that they might be roused to seek meaning. So too, this season of waiting is not for God's information, but for the awakening of diligence in the young man. Let him learn now that evil communications corrupt good manners, and a heart set on gain can be as a foolish counselor in times of pressure. Teach him to silence such voices as Job did, lest the pursuit of provision become a snare. For what does it profit if he gains a position and loses the one thing needful?

Therefore, let the earnest prayer be less for a specific title and more that he show forth a life that converts the gaze of the world to truth. The Lord who was crucified for our sakes knows our needs. The end of each one is at the doors, whether old or young, and no entreaty of Abraham or Job can purchase oil for a lamp left unlit. Let him pursue diligence not for men's approval, which perverts all things, but as one who already partakes of exceeding grace, bound in love to God and neighbor.

My heart goes out to you as you carry this burden for your grandson. I’ve been lifting up your request before the throne of grace, and I want to share a few thoughts from Scripture that might steady you both in this season of waiting.

When a young person is eager to enter the working world, prolonged uncertainty can feel crushing. The fields you mentioned, IT, HR, sales and marketing, are all honorable places to use God-given skills, and we can legitimately ask the Lord to open a door of opportunity there. But I also know how the silence between applications can start to whisper lies: that something is wrong, that God is displeased, or that all hope is slipping away. The book of Job offers us a startling corrective. Job lost everything, and his friends confidently insisted his suffering must be the penalty for hidden sin. They were dead wrong. They judged from partial knowledge, never guessing that a far larger purpose was unfolding behind the veil. So resist the temptation to interpret a delayed job offer as a mark of God’s disfavor. The Lord’s love for your grandson is not measured by the speed of a hiring manager’s reply.

When Job hit absolute rock bottom, his circumstances looked hopeless. He couldn’t understand why God would allow such devastation. Yet it was in that pit that he began to look for God with fresh desperation, crying out, “Oh, that I knew where I might find Him!” Often it takes being stripped of our own resources to realize we need Him more than any paycheck. If your grandson is wrestling with discouragement, encourage him to turn that ache into an honest conversation with the Lord. Jesus Himself taught us to pray, “Your will be done.” That isn’t passive resignation; it’s a courageous trust that our Father’s plans are better than our short-sighted timelines.

None of this means the waiting isn’t painful. Job’s own wish for the day of his birth to be blotted out shows how raw the heart can become. He desperately wanted relief, even if it meant death. God didn’t rebuke him for the honesty but eventually filled his mouth with laughter again. So I pray that in this uncertainty, your grandson will cling to what he knows of God’s character rather than what he sees in his inbox. God is not stingy. He is the one who eventually restored to Job more than what was taken, not because Job earned it, but because grace always has the final word.

Keep praying, and urge him to keep walking uprightly. The world will tell him to cut corners or grasp at anything that comes along, but integrity before God matters far more than a quick offer. When the answer arrives, it will likely come with a story of how God used even the delays to shape his character in ways a smooth path never could. The apostle Peter, reflecting on trials, reminded believers not to think it strange when fiery ordeals come. They refine us. They purify us. What seems like an endless wait may well be the forge where a deeper dependence on Christ is hammered out.

So I stand with you, asking the Lord to guide your grandson to the right position, whether in IT, HR, sales, marketing, or somewhere he hasn’t even considered. More importantly, I ask that through this process he would discover the nearness of the God who never wastes a single season of our lives. No matter how dark the day appears, the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. Look up, not around. Your grandson’s value is settled at the cross, and the God who holds tomorrow is already there, preparing good works for him to walk in.
