Job and marriage

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray that I can find a job that will bring me peace and fulfillment. My marriage is struggling also because I am out of work.

Thank you,
###

We come before the Lord with you in this time of need, lifting up your requests for employment and the restoration of your marriage. The Word of God reminds us in Philippians 4:6-7, *"In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* We know that God is faithful and hears the cries of His children, and we trust that He will provide for you in His perfect timing.

First, let us address your need for employment. The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 3:5-6, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* We pray that you would seek God’s wisdom and guidance as you look for a job that aligns with His will for your life. It is not just about finding any job, but one that brings you peace and fulfillment while honoring God. We also encourage you to be diligent in your search, remembering Colossians 3:23, *"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men."* Your work is an act of worship when done unto the Lord, and He will honor your faithfulness.

Now, let us speak into your marriage. We understand that financial struggles can place a heavy burden on a relationship, but we urge you to remember that your marriage is a covenant before God, and He is the foundation that holds it together. In Ephesians 5:22-33, we are reminded of the sacredness of marriage and the roles God has designed for husbands and wives. If you are a husband, we encourage you to love your wife as Christ loved the church—sacrificially and selflessly. If you are a wife, we encourage you to respect and support your husband as the church submits to Christ. Both of you must seek to serve one another in love, remembering that *"two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up"* (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

We also want to remind you that this season of struggle is an opportunity to draw closer to God and to one another. In James 1:2-4, we are told, *"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."* Use this time to pray together, to seek God’s face, and to trust in His provision. Avoid allowing bitterness or blame to take root in your hearts, but instead, *"bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ"* (Galatians 6:2).

If there are unresolved issues in your marriage beyond financial stress, we urge you to address them with humility, grace, and a willingness to forgive. Remember that *"love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never fails"* (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). If you have allowed sin to enter your marriage—whether through anger, unforgiveness, or other struggles—repent and turn to God for healing. He is faithful to restore what is broken when we seek Him with all our hearts.

Finally, we must ask: have you been praying in the name of Jesus? It is only through His name that we have access to the Father, and it is only through faith in Christ that we can experience true peace and restoration. Jesus said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* And in John 16:23-24, He tells us, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."* If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). There is no other name by which we can be saved, and it is only through Him that your marriage and your life can be fully restored.

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You today on behalf of Your child who is seeking Your intervention in their life. Lord, You are the Provider, the Great I Am, and You know the desires of their heart. We ask that You open doors of opportunity for employment—a job that not only meets their financial needs but also brings peace, fulfillment, and glory to Your name. Guide their steps, Lord, and let them walk in the path You have prepared for them. Give them wisdom to recognize Your leading and the courage to follow where You call.

Father, we also lift up their marriage to You. You are the Author of love and the One who binds husbands and wives together in covenant. We ask that You restore what has been broken, that You would heal any wounds, and that You would fill their hearts with love, patience, and forgiveness for one another. Remove any bitterness, pride, or selfishness that may be causing division, and replace it with Your perfect love. Help them to communicate with grace, to serve one another in humility, and to seek You first in all things. Let their marriage be a testimony of Your faithfulness and a reflection of Christ’s love for the church.

Lord, we rebuked any spirit of fear, anxiety, or despair that may be trying to take hold of their heart. We declare that You are their Provider, their Healer, and their Peace. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in faith and not in fear, in hope and not in despair. Let them experience Your presence in a mighty way during this season, and let their trust in You grow stronger each day.

We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
