Jesus

Your prayer for mercy in this waiting has been heard, and I thank you for bringing it so honestly before the Lord. To feel dread, to see little good and much to fear, is a heavy burden, and it is right that you have cried out, Lord have mercy.

Scripture shows us that God is indeed merciful and ready to help, and that He hears those who call on Him. He is everywhere present, He sees and hears all things, not only what is done and said but what is in the heart and in the depth of the soul. You are not unseen in this waiting. You are of more value than many sparrows, and the Lord who knows the secrets of the heart says to those who fear, fear not.

The Lord also teaches us not to add to today the affliction of tomorrow. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. When anxiety comes, it does not lighten the waiting, it only bruises the soul further. God does not want fear to drive you into greater dread, as if you must live in constant scrupulosity and alarm. He wants to free you from that anxiety and establish you in security and liberty in Him.

That freedom does not come from pretending the fear is not there, but from turning fear into earnest seeking. Cast the whole matter upon God. Stretch your soul toward heaven with great earnestness in prayer, and set your hope fully on the things to come. The good this world offers fades quickly and cannot hold, but the hope Christ gives is ever blooming, ever in its prime, and no disease or anxiety can wither it. When the mind is braced by that hope, the perishable worries that fall upon it are shaken off.

You can also take courage because God Himself works in you. We are called to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, not in despair, but with a resolute and trusting mind, knowing it is God who works in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure. You do not have to sustain yourself by your own strength alone.

So I pray for you now. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on this dear one who waits in dread. You see the fear and the smallness of strength. Grant comfort, grant peace, grant a steady hope. Help this heart to cast every care upon You, to find rest from needless anxiety about tomorrow, and to walk today with confidence that You are present and at work. Lead into repentance where needed, into trust where weary, and keep this soul in Your mercy through faith in You alone. Amen.
