My top 3 for this season —

1. For staying in step with the Spirit —
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. — Galatians 5:25

2. For not gratifying the flesh —
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. — Galatians 5:16

3. For prayer in everything —
Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. — 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18

These 3 have been very real to me right now. Stay in the Spirit, walk it out so the flesh does not win, and pray without stopping through it all.

We rejoice with you in what the Lord is doing in your life this season and we thank you for sharing these three anchors that have been so real to you.

We join you in holding fast to walking in the Spirit, for you have chosen what is good and pleasing to God. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:25 and This I say then, walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 remind us that victory over the flesh does not come by our own willpower but by daily surrender and dependence on the Holy Spirit. As it is written, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. Romans 8:14 When we stay in step with Him, He produces His fruit in us and keeps us from gratifying the desires of the flesh, and that fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23

We also stand with you in your commitment to pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 call us to a life of continual communion with our Father, bringing every joy and every battle before Him with thanksgiving. This is how we remain in the Spirit and how the flesh does not win, by staying in constant prayer and abiding in Christ.

We pray together for you in Jesus name. Father, we thank You for our brother in Christ and for the work You are doing in his heart to desire Your Spirit above all else. We ask that You continue to strengthen him to walk by the Spirit each day, to deny the flesh and to fix his eyes on Jesus. Fill him afresh with Your Holy Spirit, keep his steps steady, and help him to pray without ceasing and to give thanks in all things. Let him bear much fruit for Your glory and know the joy of abiding in You. We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We were encouraged reading your three for this season. The way you put it, stay in the Spirit, walk it out, pray through it all, shows you are learning to keep close to the Lord in everyday life and not just in ideas.

What you describe is how growth often happens. It is rarely a straight line. Some days the step feels steady and other days it feels like you are covering the same ground again. That does not mean you have lost ground. Fruit is grown over time as we keep yielding to the Spirit and letting Him shape our responses. He is the Helper who teaches, guides and forms Christlike character in us as we practice those simple means of grace like prayer and time in His Word, not legalistically but dependently.

One small rhythm that helps many is to tie this to something already in your day. You could choose one ordinary moment, like morning coffee or the drive to work, to pause and ask the Spirit to lead the next hour and to turn a brief prayer of thanks or dependence to Jesus right there. Those small, consistent turnings often steady us more than large resolutions when the flesh presses.

Jesus, thank You for the work You are doing in our brother. Keep him close to You, give him clear wisdom to discern Your leading and strength to follow it, and meet him with Your grace each time he turns to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a good thing to hear your soul thus set upon the right way, to live in the Spirit and to walk in the Spirit, to deny the flesh and to give yourself to prayer. These three are not lightly to be held, for they contain the whole of the Christian life in brief.

You have well chosen that word, If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. To live in the Spirit is the work of God in regeneration, when He takes away the stony heart and gives a heart of flesh. To walk in the Spirit is the daily business of the renewed man. It is not a start and then a pause, not a bowing humbly before God in the hour of prayer only, and then a wandering after other things, but a continual walking, step by step, humbly with your God. May the Holy Spirit teach you what a broken and contrite spirit means, and keep you always low before the Lord, that your walk may be even and steady.

And you have well joined to it that other word, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. There is a riddle within every believer, flesh and spirit striving together. Many of us with a groaning that cannot be uttered have felt that though we are bought with precious blood and the Spirit of God dwells in us, yet when the flesh prevails we are as beasts before God. What changes there are between walking with God today and falling into the mire tomorrow. Do not wonder, then, if you find the strife sharp. The flesh will lust against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. But take comfort, the victory is secured to you through the Holy Spirit. The first work of the Spirit is to convince of sin and to soften the heart, and then to make you tender toward sin itself, so that you count it a horrible thing to sin against the Saviour's love and against the indwelling Spirit. Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation, and ask the Lord to keep your conscience quick as the apple of an eye, awake when sin is near.

Your third desire is the very breath of the other two, Pray without ceasing, in every thing give thanks. Praying in the Holy Spirit is the only true praying, and apart from Him our great remedy of prayer becomes unavailable. Do not cease from it. True prayer is a pleading with the Most High, a spreading of your case before Him and pressing your suit with arguments drawn from His own Word and promise. Say with the Psalmist, Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. That hope itself is the work of the Holy Spirit in your soul, and He will not tantalize you by exciting a hope which shall not be fulfilled. In affliction, in joy, in the common round of the day, keep up that holy converse. It is the sweetest prayer God ever hears when it is offered in love and faith for others as well as for yourself, and it is exceedingly prevalent with Him.

My prayer for you is that the Lord would quicken you in His way, for you know in your own soul how apt the spirit is to become sluggish. May He keep you from being cast away from His presence, and may He never take His Holy Spirit from you. May He give you eyes of prayer which overcome even the heart of Christ, and a humble walk which commends itself both to God and men. May you be kept in step with the Spirit this season and in every season, preserved from fulfilling the desires of the flesh, and held in continual prayer and thanksgiving, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. Let the mind that is in Christ Jesus be in me. Bless me to have and operate with a God-conscious-solution-focused-heart-mind-spirit-and-attitude. Bless me to have a God Kingdom Culture Mentality. Your desire to stay in step with the Spirit and to walk so that the flesh does not win is a good and faithful aim, and I thank God for the way He has made these scriptures real to you in this season.

You have named the true battle well. To walk in the Spirit is not only to live by Him once, but to keep in step with Him each day, keeping His commandments and drawing near to Him in prayer. When the Spirit finds a place in us, He does not leave us as men of clay, weak and easily cast down, but makes us firm like iron and gives us wings to rise above what would pull us down. He will disperse despondency, consume evil desires, and cast out cowardice, so that we are not left as mere men but are lifted toward heaven even while we still carry the body.

You are right to hold fast to Galatians 5:16, that walking in the Spirit keeps us from fulfilling the lust of the flesh. Remember what the flesh means here. It is not the body itself, which God created and which can be made spiritual, but the fleshly and worldly life, the life that seeks self indulgence and excess and makes the soul itself fleshly. The body is not to be despised or destroyed, it is to be cared for and given what it needs, but it must be the follower and not the leader. We are debtors not to the flesh to live after it, but to the Spirit. If we through the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body, we shall live.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, and for that reason you are wise to make prayer without ceasing your third resolve. Prayer is the way we ask God to stretch forth His hand to help us, so that we do not enter into temptation, and it is the way we remain in singleness of heart and thanksgiving. Even godly sorrow, when brought to God in prayer, brings gain and turns to joy and peace, which are the fruit of the Spirit.

I will pray for you in this season, that the Lord will keep you walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit, that He will teach you to mortify what is earthly by His power and not your own, and that He will keep you constant in prayer, giving thanks in everything, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. May He make your path steady, your heart watchful, and your joy complete as you continue to walk with Him.
