Humble Servant
Dear God please help my ### with her AUD. I hope that you can touch her heart to help her understand that she needs to drink less alcohol and smoke less cigarettes. I'm really worried about her health and our relationship. I too used to be a functioning alcoholic and I used to smoke a pack of cigarettes every day. Thank you for helping me quit smoking cigarettes and for not being a alcoholic anymore. I'm not perfect I still drink alcohol but I am able thanks to you too control my AUD. Please help us soften our hearts and to help each other and to be nice to each other and to love each other. Thank you for helping me with my projects and proposals and for softening the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers to help me and to help me. Please help our adult kids' with their needs. Thank God for this forum and I pray that you can help everyone else who is reaching out to you for help. I am sooooo glad that I have your son Jesus Christ my lord and Savior to help me and to forgive me for my faults and my failures. Amen 🙏

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and family to the Lord. Father, we thank You for this husband’s testimony of Your transforming power—how You delivered him from the grip of alcohol and nicotine. We rejoice in his progress and ask that You would complete the work You’ve begun in him, helping him to walk in full victory over every temptation. Your Word declares, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13). Strengthen him to resist even the "controlled" drinking he mentions, for we know that alcohol can be a subtle foothold for the enemy to regain ground in a believer’s life.

Lord, we cry out for this wife, bound by alcohol use disorder and smoking. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name, for *"the Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the works of the devil"* (1 John 3:8). Soften her heart to recognize the danger of these habits—not just to her body, which is Your temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), but to her soul and her marriage. Father, grant her the same courage and conviction You gave her husband to surrender these chains to You. We pray for divine encounters that would awaken her to the truth: that true freedom is found only in Christ. *"If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed"* (John 8:36).

We also lift up this marriage, strained by the effects of addiction. Lord, restore the love, patience, and kindness that may have been eroded. Your Word commands, *"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you"* (Ephesians 4:31-32). Help this couple to speak life into one another, to bear each other’s burdens, and to fight *together* against the enemy’s schemes. Remind them that their covenant is sacred—*"What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate"* (Mark 10:9). Guard their hearts from resentment and enable them to extend grace, just as You have extended it to them.

For their adult children, we ask for Your provision and protection. Father, meet their needs—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual—and draw them closer to You. May this family’s testimony of redemption become a beacon of hope to others, for *"we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose"* (Romans 8:28).

We also want to gently address the husband’s mention of still drinking alcohol, even if in moderation. Scripture warns, *"Do not get drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit"* (Ephesians 5:18). While the Bible does not forbid alcohol outright, it *does* forbid drunkenness and warns against even the *appearance* of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22). For someone with a history of AUD, the wisest path may be total abstinence, as *"it is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything by which your brother stumbles"* (Romans 14:21). We encourage him to seek the Lord’s wisdom on this, asking: *Does my drinking honor God? Could it become a stumbling block to my wife or others?*

Finally, we rejoice that this brother has found salvation in Jesus Christ! There is no greater gift than knowing Him, for *"there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved"* (Acts 4:12). May his life continue to reflect the fruit of repentance, and may his marriage become a living testament to Your redeeming love.

Heavenly Father, we pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Break every chain of addiction, heal every wound in this marriage, and restore what the enemy has stolen. Pour out Your Spirit afresh on this family, that they may walk in the fullness of life You intended. We declare that *"if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new"* (2 Corinthians 5:17). Strengthen them to run this race with endurance, fixing their eyes on You, the author and perfecter of their faith. Amen.

We're here with you, brother, lifting up your wife and your marriage to our Lord Jesus Christ. We've seen His power in your life, delivering you from alcohol and nicotine, and we believe He can do the same for your wife. Let's ask Him together.

"Dear Jesus, we come to You with heavy hearts, but also with hope. You've shown us that nothing is impossible with You. We ask that You would touch our sister's heart, help her understand the danger of AUD and smoking. Give her the courage to surrender these chains to You, just like You helped our brother do.

Lord, we also ask for Your healing in their marriage. Help them to love, forgive, and be patient with each other, just as You've forgiven us. Remind them that their marriage is a sacred covenant, and help them to honor it.

For their adult children, we ask for Your provision and protection. Meet their needs, draw them close to You, and use this family's testimony of redemption to be a beacon of hope to others.

And ###, we're here for you too. We know that even 'controlled' drinking can be a foothold for the enemy. Let's seek the Lord's wisdom together on this. Remember, it's better not to eat meat or drink wine if it causes your brother to stumble.

We rejoice in your salvation, ###. There's no greater gift than knowing Jesus Christ. May your life continue to reflect the fruit of repentance, and may your marriage be a living testament to God's redeeming love.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
