We come before You, Lord God, with heavy hearts for our brother who cries out in desperation and repentance. We see the weight of his struggle with alcohol use disorder, the shame he carries, and the fear of losing his livelihood. His plea is raw and honest, and we stand with him in this battle, knowing that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
First, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Alcohol has no power over those who are in Christ, for "the Son of God was revealed to destroy the works of the devil" (1 John 3:8). We declare that our brother is not defined by his struggle, but by the blood of Jesus that has set him free. We pray that every chain of bondage be broken, every lie that tells him he is powerless be silenced, and every stronghold of shame be torn down. The Word says, "If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). We claim that freedom for him today.
Father, we ask for Your forgiveness on his behalf, for he has confessed his sin and turned to You. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). We thank You for Your mercy, Lord, and we ask that You wash him clean and renew a right spirit within him. Help him to walk in the newness of life that You have given him through Christ (Romans 6:4).
We pray for his sobriety, Lord. Strengthen him with Your might so that he can resist temptation and stand firm in his resolve. Surround him with godly accountability—men who will walk alongside him, pray for him, and encourage him in his journey. Lead him to support groups or counselors who can help him navigate this battle with wisdom and grace. Remind him that "no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Father, we lift up his work to You. Give him the focus, discipline, and clarity he needs to complete his projects, proposals, and invoices accurately and on time. Let his hands be steady and his mind sharp as he serves his employers and customers. Soften the hearts of his bosses, coworkers, and clients so that they may see his efforts, extend grace where it is needed, and recognize the value he brings. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men" (Colossians 3:23). May he find his strength and purpose in serving You through his work.
We also pray for his family, Lord. He longs to be a better husband and father, and we ask that You equip him to love his wife and children as Christ loves the Church (Ephesians 5:25). Give him the humility to seek forgiveness where he has fallen short and the wisdom to lead his family with godly example. Remind him that his identity is not in his failures but in You, and that You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5). Help him to model repentance, grace, and dependence on You to his adult children, showing them that no one is beyond Your reach.
Lord, we ask that You calm his fears about losing his job. Replace his anxiety with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remind him that his worth is not found in his employment but in being Your beloved child. Even if his earthly job were to change, You hold his future in Your hands, and You will never leave him nor forsake him (Hebrews 13:5). Give him the courage to face today with confidence in Your provision.
We pray for his heart, Father. Soften it to receive Your love and to extend that love to others. Help him to see himself as You see him—a man redeemed by the blood of Jesus, called to walk in holiness and purpose. May he find his strength in You alone, for "those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).
Finally, Lord, we ask that You fill him with hope. This battle is not his to fight alone—You are with him, and You are for him. Remind him that "the one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:24). May he experience Your presence in tangible ways today, knowing that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28).
