We hear your heart, brother, and we join with you in lifting these burdens before the throne of grace. Your honesty about the struggles with alcohol, the weight of work, and the desire to be a better husband and father is deeply moving. The Lord sees your weariness and your longing for change, and He is near to those who call on Him in truth.

First, we must address the matter of alcohol with clarity and love. Scripture warns us in Ephesians 5:18, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." The fact that you are drinking in bed, even now, while asking for help to overcome alcohol use disorder (AUD) reveals a battle that cannot be won by willpower alone. The shaking and sweating you describe are signs of bondage, and the Lord desires your freedom. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." We must rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus' name and declare that your body belongs to the Lord. You cannot serve both the bottle and the Savior—this is a choice that must be made daily, even hourly.

We encourage you to seek accountability immediately. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." Confide in your pastor, a trusted brother in Christ, or a biblically grounded recovery group. You mentioned your wife—does she know the full extent of this struggle? If not, we urge you to share with her, as unity in marriage is a powerful weapon against the enemy. James 5:16 instructs, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." Do not carry this alone.

Your prayer for your marriage and your role as a husband is heard. Ephesians 5:25 commands, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it." This is not a suggestion—it is a calling. Loving your wife as Christ loves the church means putting her needs above your own, even when you are exhausted. It means speaking life into her, praying over her, and leading your family spiritually. We pray that the Lord would give you the strength to rise to this calling, even on the days when it feels impossible.

For your children, we lift them up as well. Your son’s relationship with his friend and your daughter’s engagement are areas where wisdom and discernment are needed. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Even as adults, your children need your guidance, your prayers, and your example. We pray that you would have the courage to speak truth into their lives, especially if there are areas where they may be straying from God’s design. If your daughter’s fiancé is not a believer, we must caution you—2 Corinthians 6:14 warns, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" Marriage is a sacred covenant, and it must be entered into with eyes wide open to God’s will.

Your job and financial concerns are heavy on your heart, and we do not take that lightly. Colossians 3:23-24 says, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." Even when work feels like a burden, it is an opportunity to glorify God. We pray that the Lord would give you favor with your bosses, coworkers, and customers, and that He would provide for your needs according to His riches in glory. Regarding the EDD SDI benefits, we encourage you to continue pursuing what is rightfully yours, but also to trust in the Lord’s provision. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts heavy for our brother. Lord, You see his struggles, his fears, and his longing to change. We ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life. Give him the strength to turn away from alcohol and to seek You above all else. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in freedom and victory. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the mighty name of Jesus and declare that he is no longer a slave to this bondage.

Father, we pray for his marriage. Soften both his heart and his wife’s heart toward one another. Help them to communicate with love and patience, and to build a marriage that reflects Christ’s love for the church. Give him the wisdom and courage to lead his family spiritually, and to be the husband and father You have called him to be.

Lord, we lift up his children to You. Give him the words to speak into their lives, and the discernment to guide them in Your truth. Protect them from the schemes of the enemy, and draw them closer to You. For his daughter’s engagement, we ask that You would reveal Your will clearly. If this relationship is not of You, give her the strength to walk away. If it is, prepare both of them for a marriage that honors You.

Father, we ask for Your provision in his work and finances. Give him favor with his employers and coworkers, and provide for his needs according to Your riches. Help him to see his job as an opportunity to serve You, and give him the strength to persevere even when it is difficult.

Lord, we thank You for the healing You have already brought to his body. We ask that You would continue to strengthen him physically, and that You would give him restful sleep tonight. Calm his mind and his spirit, and help him to wake tomorrow with a renewed sense of purpose and hope.

Above all, Father, we pray that he would draw nearer to You. That he would seek Your face daily, and find his strength in You alone. Remind him that he is not alone in this battle, and that You are with him every step of the way. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.

Brother, you are not alone. The Lord is with you, and so are we. Take this moment to surrender your struggles to Him completely. Lay down the bottle, and pick up the cross. The road to freedom is not easy, but it is worth it. We will continue to stand with you in prayer, and we encourage you to seek out godly counsel and accountability. You can change—because Christ in you is greater than anything the world, the flesh, or the devil can throw at you. Keep fighting the good fight.

Dear friend, we hear your heart's cry and we're right here with you. We're not going to dwell on the alcohol struggle, as it's been well-covered. Instead, we want to encourage you in your desire to be a better husband, employee, and father. We believe in you, and we know that God has great things in store for you and your family.

Firstly, we want to remind you of the power of confession and unity in marriage. James 5:16 tells us, "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." We encourage you to have an open and honest conversation with your wife about your struggles and your desires to change. This doesn't mean you should burden her with all your worries, but rather share your heart and ask for her support and prayers.

For your job, we want to encourage you to keep pressing on. Colossians 3:23-24 says, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men... It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Remember, even when work feels heavy, you're doing it for the Lord. We pray that He would bless your efforts and give you favor with your bosses, coworkers, and customers.

We also want to pray for your children. We believe that God has given you a special role in their lives, and we trust that you will lead them with wisdom and love. Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." We pray that your son's relationship and your daughter's engagement would be guided by God's wisdom and love.

Finally, we want to remind you that God is with you every step of the way. He sees your struggles, and He's cheering you on. We're here for you too, standing in prayer and support. You're not alone in this journey, and we believe that with God's help, you can overcome any obstacle.

Let's pray together:

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today with thanksgiving for our brother. Lord, You see his heart, his desires, and his struggles. We ask that You would strengthen him, guide him, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Help him to be the husband, employee, and father You've called him to be. Give him wisdom and courage to lead his family, and protect his children from harm. We thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Keep fighting the good fight, dear friend. We're believing in you!
