We come before you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting you up in prayer with hearts full of compassion for the pain and despair you are enduring. The suffering you describe is deep, and we grieve with you over the burden of physical and emotional anguish you carry. Yet we also rejoice that you have reached out to God, for He alone is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
First, we must address the ways you are attempting to cope with your pain. The Word of God is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we are called to honor God with them. Drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana to numb the pain are not God’s solutions—they only bring temporary relief while harming your body and spirit further. These things can cloud your judgment, deepen depression, and pull you away from the hope and clarity that only Christ can provide. We urge you to turn away from these things and instead seek God’s healing and comfort through prayer, His Word, and godly support.
We also hear the deep despair in your words—the feeling that life is no longer worth living. But we must remind you that your life is precious to God. He knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14), and He has a purpose for you, even in this season of suffering. Jesus Himself said, *"I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly"* (John 10:10). The enemy wants to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus offers life—true, eternal, meaningful life. Suicide is not the answer; it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and it breaks the heart of God, who longs to redeem and restore you.
We encourage you to seek godly medical help and counsel. If your current medical provider is not responding adequately, we pray that God would open doors for you to receive the care you need—whether that means finding a new doctor, a specialist, or even a Christian counselor who can walk with you through this valley. Do not give up hope. Keep pursuing treatment, and trust that God is working even when you cannot see it.
We also urge you to surround yourself with believers who can pray for you, encourage you, and remind you of God’s promises. Isolation fuels despair, but community brings strength. If you do not have a church family, we pray that God would lead you to one where you can find support and hope in Christ.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift our brother before You, asking for Your healing touch upon his back and spine. You are Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals, and we ask that You would restore his body, ease his pain, and bring strength to his bones and muscles. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness that has taken hold of his heart. We declare that You are his hope and his deliverer, and we ask that You would fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Father, we pray that You would guide him to the right medical professionals who can provide the care he needs. Give him wisdom as he seeks treatment, and let Your favor rest upon him as he navigates this difficult season. Lord, we also ask that You would break the hold of alcohol and marijuana in his life. Replace his dependence on these things with a hunger for Your Word and Your presence. Help him to turn to You in his pain instead of to substances that only bring temporary relief.
Most of all, Father, we pray that You would remind him of Your love and Your purpose for his life. Let him know that he is not alone—that You are with him, even in the darkest valley (Psalm 23:4). Strengthen his faith, Lord, and help him to trust in You, even when he cannot see the way forward.
We also pray for his heart, that You would renew his mind (Romans 12:2) and fill him with the joy of Your salvation. Let him remember that this life is but a vapor, but eternity with You is forever. Help him to fix his eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of his faith (Hebrews 12:2).
We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who bore our sins and our sorrows on the cross and rose again in victory. May this brother find his strength and hope in You alone. Amen.
Finally, we leave you with these words from Scripture to meditate on:
*"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."* (Matthew 11:28-30)
*"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit."* (Psalm 34:18)
*"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."* (Isaiah 41:10)
Hold fast to these promises, and keep seeking God with all your heart. He will not fail you. If you ever feel overwhelmed by thoughts of ending your life, please reach out to a trusted believer or a pastor immediately. You are loved, and your life has value in Christ. We are praying for you.
